Abstract

A telecommunications system according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a wireless device (30-150) including a positioning controller (504) and a communications controller (502); and an administrative device (30-152) for receiving alerts from said wireless communication device via said communications controller when said positioning controller determines that said wireless device is outside a predetermined geographic range, route, or daily routine.

Claims

1. A telecommunications system, comprising:

a wireless device including a positioning controller and a communications controller; and

an administrative device for receiving alerts from said wireless communication device via said communications controller when said positioning controller determines that said wireless device is outside a predetermined geographic range, route, or daily routine.

2. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 1, wherein said positioning controller receives global positioning network signals for determining a position of said wireless communications device.

3. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 2, wherein said communications controller comprises a cellular network controller for transmitting on a cellular telephone network to said administrative device.

4. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 3, wherein said administrative device is adapted to display location information when said wireless device is determined to be outside said predetermined range.

5. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 1, wherein said administrative device can receive requests to change said predetermined geographic range, route, or daily routine, and transmit said changes to said wireless telecommunications device.

6. A telecommunications method, comprising:

affixing a wireless device to a predetermined user;

programming said wireless device to be in a predetermined range, said predetermined range comprising geographic, route and daily routine limits; and

transmitting one or more alerting signals to an administrative device when said wireless device is determined to be outside said predetermined range.

7. A telecommunications method in accordance with claim 6, wherein said administrative device comprises a telephony device.

8. A telecommunications method in accordance with claim 6, wherein said one or more alerting signals comprise one or more e-mail signals.

9. A telecommunications method in accordance with claim 6, wherein said one or more alerting signals comprise one or more Instant Messaging signals.

10. A telecommunications method in accordance with claim 6, further comprising receiving at said administrative device one or more requests to alter said predetermined range.

11. A telecommunications method in accordance with claim 10, further comprising receiving at said wireless communications device a temporary variance to said predetermined range.

12. A telecommunications method in accordance with claim 11, wherein said temporary variance comprises one or more new geographic, route or daily routine limits.

13. A telecommunications method, comprising:

associating a predetermined user with a wireless telecommunications device, said wireless telecommunications device including a positioning controller for determining a position of said wireless communication device and a communications controller for transmitting a position of said wireless telecommunications device to an administrative device;

programming said wireless telecommunications device to said predetermined user'"'"'s daily routine

affixing said wireless telecommunications device to said predetermined user; and

monitoring said predetermined user'"'"'s actual routine and sending one or more alert signals to said administrative device if said actual routine differs from a programmed predetermined routine.

14. A telecommunications method in accordance with claim 13, including receiving a request at said administrative device for a variation in said predetermined routine.

15. A telecommunications method in accordance with claim 14, further including transmitting a variance to said wireless telecommunication device from said administrative device.

16. A telecommunications method in accordance with claim 15, wherein said transmitting variance comprises transmitting via a cellular telephone network.
