Abstract

A method and system for generating an image display plan is provided. In one embodiment, a planning system allows a user to create a display plan that specifies a sequence of images that are to be displayed and how the images are to be displayed. The planning system allows a user to specify different versions of the plan for different aspect ratios. When displaying the image, the planning system may display multiple viewports simultaneously on the image, one for each of the different aspect ratios. The planning system may allow the multiple viewports to be moved around and resized as a unit maintaining a common center point for the viewports.

Claims

1. A method in a computer system for specifying viewports of an image, the method comprising:

displaying the image;

receiving an indication of a location on the displayed image for a viewport;

displaying a first viewport with a first aspect ratio on the displayed image at the indicated location; and

displaying a second viewport with a second aspect ratio on the displayed image at the indicated location

so that multiple viewports with different aspect ratios can be displayed simultaneously.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the viewports are displayed centered around the indicated location.

3. The method of claim 1 including specifying a size for a viewport.

4. The method of claim 3 wherein the size indicates a dimension of the first viewport.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein a size of the second viewport is based on the size of the first viewport.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the first and second viewports are displayed with outlines of different colors.

7. The method of claim 1 including receiving an indication to move the first viewport and automatically moving the second viewport.

8. The method of claim 1 including receiving an indication that the first viewport is displayed relative to a first location and the second viewport is displayed relative to a second location.

9. The method of claim 1 including displaying contents of the first viewport with the first aspect ratio separate from the displayed image.

10. The method of claim 9 including displaying contents of the second viewport with the second aspect ratio separate from the displayed image and separate from the displayed contents of the first viewport.

11. The method of claim 1 including displaying a third viewport with a third aspect ratio on the displayed image.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein the first and second viewports are in landscape mode.

13. The method of claim 1 wherein the first and second viewports are in portrait mode.

14. The method of claim 1 wherein the first viewport is in landscape mode and the second viewport is in portrait mode.

15. The method of claim 1 wherein when the first viewport is resized, the second viewport is automatically resized.

16. A method in a computer system for specifying viewports of an image, the method comprising:

displaying the image;

displaying a first viewport with a first shape on the displayed image; and

displaying a second viewport with a second shape on the displayed image

so that viewports with different shapes can be displayed simultaneously.

17. The method of claim 16 wherein the different shapes represent different aspect ratios of the viewports.

18. The method of claim 16 including receiving from a user an indication of where to display the viewports on the displayed image.

19. The method of claim 18 wherein a user specifies the indication by pointing to a location on the displayed image.

20. The method of claim 18 wherein a user specifies the indication by entering coordinates of a location of the displayed image.

21. The method of claim 16 wherein the viewports are displayed centered around an indicated location.

22. The method of claim 16 including specifying a size for a viewport.

23. The method of claim 22 wherein the size indicates a dimension of the first viewport.

24. The method of claim 23 wherein a size of the second viewport is based on the size of the first viewport.

25. The method of claim 16 wherein the first and second viewports are displayed with outlines of different colors.

26. The method of claim 16 including receiving an indication to move the first viewport and automatically moving the second viewport.

27. The method of claim 16 including receiving an indication that the first viewport is displayed relative to a first location and the second viewport is displayed relative to a second location.

28. The method of claim 16 including displaying contents of the first viewport separate from the displayed image.

29. The method of claim 28 including displaying contents of the second viewport separate from the displayed image and separate from the displayed contents of the first viewport.

30. The method of claim 16 including displaying on the displayed image a third viewport with a third shape.

31. The method of claim 16 wherein the first and second viewports are rectangles in landscape mode.

32. The method of claim 16 wherein the first and second viewports are rectangles in portrait mode.

33. The method of claim 16 wherein the first viewport is a rectangle in landscape mode and the second viewport is a rectangle in portrait mode.

34. The method of claim 16 wherein when the first viewport is resized, the second viewport is automatically resized.

35. The method of claim 16 including generating a first display plan based on the first viewport and generating a second display plan based on the second viewport.

36. A computer system for specifying viewports of an image, comprising:

means for displaying a first viewport with a first shape on a displayed image;

means for displaying a second viewport with a second shape on the displayed image simultaneously with the display of the first viewport; and

means for when a user specifies to adjust the first viewport automatically adjusting the second viewport.

37. The system of claim 36 wherein the first and the second shapes represent different aspect ratios of the viewports.

38. The system of claim 36 including means for receiving from a user an indication of where to display the viewports on the displayed image.

39. The system of claim 38 wherein a user specifies the indication by pointing to a location on the displayed image.

40. The system of claim 38 wherein a user specifies the indication by entering coordinates of a location of the displayed image.

41. The system of claim 36 wherein the viewports are displayed centered around an indicated location.

43. The system of claim 36 including means for specifying a size for a viewport.

44. The system of claim 43 wherein the size indicates a dimension of the first viewport.

45. The system of claim 44 wherein a size of the second viewport is based on the size of the first viewport.

46. The system of claim 36 wherein the first and second viewports are displayed with outlines of different colors.

47. The system of claim 36 including means for moving the first viewport and the second viewport as a unit.

48. The system of claim 36 including means for receiving an indication that the first viewport is to be displayed relative to a first location and the second viewport is displayed relative to a second location.

49. The system of claim 36 including means for displaying contents of the first viewport separate from the displayed image.

50. The system of claim 49 including means for displaying contents of the second viewport separate from the displayed image and separate from the displayed contents of the first viewport.

51. The system of claim 36 including means for displaying on the displayed image a third viewport with a third shape.

52. The system of claim 36 including means for generating a first display plan based on the first viewport and a second display plan based on the second viewport.
