Abstract

The invention relates to a method for the differential diagnostic early recognition and recognition, prognosis and determination of the degree of severity of a case of sepsis and systemic infections similar to sepsis and also for the determination of the course of the infection during therapy. The above is achieved, whereby the amount of CA125 in a biological fluid from a patient is determined, preferably with determination of at least one further parameter suitable for diagnosis of sepsis, for a patient who has sepsis or is suspected of having sepsis and, from the determined amounts of CA 125 conclusions are drawn as the presence, expected course, the degree and/or the success of measures taken for the therapy of sepsis.

Claims

1. Method for early differential diagnosis and detection, for prognosis and assessment of the severity or therapy-accompanying assessment of the course of sepsis or sepsis-like systemic infections, comprising testing a biological fluid of a patient in whom sepsis is present or sepsis is suspected for the presence and/or amount of CA 125, wherein the presence and/or amount of CA 125 in said sample is indicative of the presence, the expected course, the severity and/or the success of initiated measures for the treatment of the sepsis.

2. Method according to claim 1, wherein the presence and/or amount of CA 125 is determined by an immunodiagnostic assay method.

Method according to claim 1, wherein said method is carried out in the course of a multiparameter determination in which at the same time at least one further sepsis parameter is determined, and a measured result in the form of a set of at least two measured variables is obtained and evaluated for fine sepsis diagnosis.

Method according to claim 3, wherein said at least one further sepsis parameter determined in the course of the multiparameter determination is selected from the group consisting of procalcitonin, CA 19-9, S100B, S100A proteins, soluble cytokeratin fragments, CYFRA 21, TPS, soluble cytokeratin-1 fragments (sCY1F), inflammin, CHP, peptide prohormones and the C-reactive protein (CRP).

5. Method according to claim 3, wherein said multiparameter determination is carried out as a simultaneous determination using a measuring apparatus operating according to the chip technology method or an immunochromatographic measuring apparatus.

6. Method according to claim 5, wherein said measuring apparatus provides a complex measured result and wherein the evaluation of said complex measured result is carried out using a computer program.

7. Method according to claim 1, wherein said biological fluid is serum.

8. Method according to claim 1, wherein said sepsis is a bacterial sepsis.

9. Method according to claim 3, wherein said method is carried out in the course of a multiparameter determination in which at the same time further sepsis parameters are determined, and a measured result in the form of a set of measured variables is obtained and evaluated for fine sepsis diagnosis.
