Abstract

The exemplary embodiments describe methods and systems for managing the communications and information resources of a user. When a request for data is received, a message log is queried for the data. The message log tracks both wireline communications and electronic communications sent to and received by the user. A result of the query is then communicated.

Claims

1. A method for managing communications of a user, comprising:

receiving a request for data;

querying a message log for the data, the message log tracking wireline communications and electronic communications sent to and received by the user; and

communicating a result of the query.

2. A method according to claim 1, wherein the electronic communications comprise at least one of i) email communications sent and received by the user, ii) facsimile communications sent and received by the user;

and iii) pager communications sent and received by the user.

3. A method according to claim 1, wherein the electronic communications comprise instant messages sent and received by the user.

4. A method according to claim 1, wherein the electronic communications comprise electronic chat room communications sent and received by the user.

5. A method according to claim 1, wherein the message log tracks communication attempts made by the user.

6. A method according to claim 1, wherein the wireline communications comprise telephone calls sent and received by the user.

7. A method according to claim 1, wherein the step of receiving the request for data comprises receiving the request from a wireless device, and wherein the step of communicating the result of the query comprises communicating the result to the wireless device.

8. A method according to claim 1, further comprising querying a calendar application for the data.

9. A method according to claim 1, further comprising querying an email application for the data.

10. A method according to claim 1, further comprising querying a directory for the data.

11. A method according to claim 1, wherein the step of receiving the request for data comprises receiving the request from a gateway, and wherein the step of communicating the result of the query comprises communicating the result to the gateway.

12. A computer program product comprising a computer readable medium including instructions for performing the steps:

receiving a request for data;

querying a message log for the data, the message log tracking wireline communications and electronic communications sent to and received by the user; and

communicating a result of the query.

13. A computer program product according to claim 12, wherein the electronic communications comprise at least one of i) email communications sent and received by the user, ii) facsimile communications sent and received by the user;

and iii) pager communications sent and received by the user.

14. A computer program product according to claim 12, wherein the electronic communications comprise instant messages sent and received by the user.

15. A computer program product according to claim 12, wherein the electronic communications comprise electronic chat room communications sent and received by the user.

16. A computer program product according to claim 12, wherein the message log tracks communication attempts made by the user.

17. A computer program product according to claim 12, wherein the wireline communications comprise telephone calls sent and received by the user.

18. A computer program product according to claim 12, further comprising instructions for querying a calendar application for the data.

19. A computer program product according to claim 12, further comprising instructions for querying an email application for the data.

20. A computer program product according to claim 12, wherein the instructions receive the request from a gateway, and wherein the instructions communicate the result to the gateway.
