Abstract

In the data structure for managing reproduction of text subtitle data, a recording area stores a main file and at least one separate text file. The main file includes multiplexed audio and video data streams, and the text subtitle file includes a single text subtitle stream.

Claims

1. A recording medium having a data structure for managing a text subtitle, comprising:

a recording area storing a main file and at least one separate text file, the main file including multiplexed audio and video data streams, and the text subtitle file including a single text subtitle stream.

2. The recording medium of claim 1, wherein the text subtitle file stores the text subtitle stream as transport packets.

3. The recording medium of claim 2, wherein each transport packet in the text subtitle stream has a same packet identifier.

4. The recording medium of claim 2, wherein the main file stores the multiplexed audio and video data streams as transport packets.

5. The recording medium of claim 2, wherein each transport packet in the text subtitle file has a same packet identifier, and the packet identifier is distinguishable from packet identifiers for the transport packets in the main file.

6. The recording medium of claim 1, wherein the main file stores the multiplexed audio and video data streams as transport packets.

7. The recording medium of claim 1, wherein the recording area stores more than one text subtitle file, and each text subtitle file includes a single text subtitle stream.

8. The recording medium of claim 7, wherein one of the text subtitle files stores a text subtitle stream for one language text subtitle, and another of the text subtitle files stores a text subtitle stream for a different language text subtitle.

9. The recording medium of claim 8, wherein the languages are Korean and English.

10. The recording medium of claim 7, wherein at least two of the text subtitle files store their respective text subtitle streams as transport packets.

11. A recording medium having a data structure for managing a text subtitle, comprising:

a recording area storing a main file and at least one separate text file, the main file including multiplexed audio data, video data and bitmap streams, and the text subtitle file including a single text subtitle stream.

12. The recording medium of claim 11, wherein the bitmap stream is a bitmap subtitle stream.

13. A method of reproducing a recording medium having a data structure for managing a text subtitle, comprising:

loading a text subtitle file into memory before decoding of a text subtitle stream included in the text subtitle file, the text subtitle file being stored separately from a main file, the main file including multiplexed audio and video data streams, and the text subtitle file including a single text subtitle stream.

14. An apparatus for reproducing a recording medium, comprising:

a pick up to reproduce at least one text subtitle file from the recording medium, the text subtitle file being stored separately from a main file on the recording medium, the main file including multiplexed audio and video data streams, and the text subtitle file including a single text subtitle stream; and

a memory to store the reproduced text subtitle file; and

a text processor to decode the text subtitle stream stored in the memory.

15. A method of recording a data structure for managing reproduction of a text subtitle on a recording medium, the method comprising:

recording a main file and at least one separate text file on the recording medium, the main file including multiplexed audio and video data streams, and the text subtitle file including a single text subtitle stream.

16. A method of reproducing a data structure for managing reproduction of a text subtitle from a recording medium, comprising:

reproducing a main file and at least one separate text file from the recording medium, the main file including multiplexed audio and video data streams, and the text subtitle file including a single text subtitle stream.

17. An apparatus for reproducing a data structure for managing reproduction of text subtitle data from a recording medium, comprising:

a pick-up to reproduce a main file and at least one separate text file from the recording medium, the main file including multiplexed audio and video data streams, and the text subtitle file including a single text subtitle stream.

18. A recording medium having a data structure for managing a text subtitle, comprising:

a recording area storing a main file and at least one separate text file, the main file including multiplexed audio and video data streams, the text subtitle file including a single text subtitle stream, the text subtitle file storing the text subtitle stream as transport packets, the main file storing the multiplexed audio and video data streams as transport packets, and each transport packet in the text subtitle file having a same packet identifier, and the packet identifier being distinguishable from packet identifiers for the transport packets in the main file.

19. A recording medium having a data structure for managing a text subtitle, comprising:

a recording area storing a main file and more than one separate text file, the main file including multiplexed audio and video data streams, each text subtitle file including a single text subtitle stream, and at least two of the text subtitle files storing their respective text subtitle streams as transport packets.
