1. A user client for a communication device, said user client being able to assume a number of different states, said communication device operable to communicate with a remotely located media based network service, the user client comprising:
- a communication module for causing said communication device to communicate information representing a currently assumed one of said states to a remotely located network system so as to enable control thereof according to said currently assumed state.

Abstract
A user client for a communication device having several possible states and associated with a remotely located voicemail system. The user client includes a communication module for communicating with the remotely located voicemail system according to a current state of the communication device so as to enable selection of a greeting for output as a voicemail reply from the remotely located voicemail system to a calling party according to the current state. One of the states is a real time recording state, which allows a user to delay forwarding the call to the voicemail system to record a real time greeting for immediate use.
