Abstract

A wire guide holder having a body for securing an elongate medical wire or tube, such as a wire guide or catheter. The body is adapted to be attached to a scope or a bite block. The body can be provided with protrusions and/or grooves for holding a wire guide. The wire guide holder may be affixed to the medical scope by clamping. The wire guide holder can also be provided with a seal.

Claims

1. A wire guide holder for securing an elongate medical device relative to a second medical device, the wire guide holder comprising:

a spine; and

a plurality of projections extending outwardly from the spine, wherein the elongate medical device is woven through the plurality of projections to thereby secure the elongate medical device relative to the second medical device.

2. The wire guide holder of claim 1, wherein the second medical device is an elongate medical tube, and the wire guide holder further comprises:

a body connected to the spine, the body having an attachment portion configured for attachment to the elongate medical tube; and

a seal supported by the body, the seal having a passageway therethrough, wherein the passageway is configured to sealingly receive the elongate medical device.

3. The wire guide holder of claim 2, wherein the elongate medical tube is an endoscope.

4. The wire guide holder of claim 2, wherein the elongate medical tube is a catheter.

5. The wire guide holder of claim 3 wherein the endoscope includes an access port, and the attachment portion of the body is configured for attachment to the access port.

6. The wire guide holder of claim 5, wherein the access port includes an insert, and the attachment portion is configured for attachment to the insert.

7. The wire guide holder of claim 6, wherein the attachment portion comprises a wedge slide configured to secure the body to the insert.

8. The wire guide holder of claim 2 wherein the attachment portion further comprises a clamp, the clamp being configured to clamp the body to the elongate medical tube.

9. The wire guide holder of claim 2 wherein the body is fixedly connected to the elongate medical tube.

10. The wire guide holder of claims 2, wherein the seal comprises a rubber housing and a foam disk disposed within the rubber housing.

11. The wire guide holder of claim 1, wherein the second medical device is a bite block.

12. The wire guide holder of claim 11, wherein the spine is fixedly attached to the bite block.

13. The wire guide holder of claim 11, wherein the spine is configured to swivel about the bite block.

14. The wire guide holder of claim 11, further comprising a hinge, wherein the spine is connected to the bite block by the hinge.

15. A wire guide holder comprising:

a body having an attachment portion configured for attachment to an elongate medical tube, the body having a securing portion configured to secure a wire guide against longitudinal movement, and

a seal supported by the body, the seal being configured to receive a wire guide passing therethrough.

16. The wire guide holder of claim 15, wherein the elongate medical tube is an endoscope.

17. The wire guide holder of claim 16, wherein the endoscope includes an access port, and the securing portion of the body is configured for attachment to the access port of the endoscope.

18. The wire guide holder of claim 17, wherein the access port of the endoscope includes an insert, and the securing portion of the body is attached to the insert.

19. The wire guide holder of claim 17, wherein the endoscope includes an access port, and the securing portion of the body is clamped to the access port.

20. The wire guide holder of claim 15, wherein the body comprises a plurality of individual components that are snap-fit together.

21. The wire guide holder of claim 15, wherein the securing portion is configured to frictionally engage opposite sides of a wire guide at spaced apart locations.

22. The wire guide holder of claim 15, wherein the securing portion is configured to direct a proximal end of a wire guide at least 60 degrees off of a central axis through the seal.

23. The wire guide holder of claim 15, wherein the securing portion comprises a plurality of transversely extending portions configured to receive a wire guide extending along a non-linear pathway.

24. A wire guide holder comprising:

a body configured to be attached to a medical tube and a wire holder having a plurality of extensions configured to hold an elongate member.

25. The wire guide holder of claim 24, wherein the plurality of extensions are configured to hold a plurality of elongate members.

26. The wire guide holder of claim 24, wherein the plurality of extensions include a recessed portion.

27. The wire guide holder of claim 24, wherein the plurality of extensions comprises a first extension and a second extension, the first extension being spaced apart from the second extension.

28. The wire guide holder of claim 26, the wire holder further comprising a central portion, the first and second extensions projecting from the central portion.

29. The wire guide holder of claim 24, wherein the elongate tube is selected from the group consisting of a catheter, an endoscope, a bite block, and a introducer sheath.

30. The wire guide holder of claim 24, further comprising an elongate member, wherein the elongate member is held by weaving the elongate member between the extensions.

31. The wire guide holder of claim 24, wherein the elongate member is selected from the group consisting of a wire guide and a catheter.

32. A system for holding a wire guide comprising:

an endoscope having an access port including an insert disposed therein; and

a wire guide holder affixed to the insert, the wire guide holder configured to secure an elongate member relative to the endoscope.

33. The system of claim 32, wherein the wire guide holder is clamped to the insert.

34. The system of claim 33, wherein the insert has a rim and wherein the wire guide holder is clamped to the rim.

35. The system of claim 33, wherein the insert has a groove and wherein the wire guide holder is disposed within the groove.

36. A wire guide holder, comprising:

a bite block;

a neck operably attached to the bite block; and

a plurality of posts attached to the neck, the plurality of posts being configured to secure an elongate member relative to the bite block.

37. The wire guide holder of claim 36, wherein the posts are spaced apart relative to the neck.

38. The wire guide holder of claim 37, wherein the neck is curved.

39. The wire guide holder of claim 37, further comprising a wire guide operably secured to the posts.

40. The wire guide holder of claim 39, wherein wire guide is operably secured by weaving the wire guide between the posts.

41. The wire guide holder of claim 36, wherein at least one of the posts defines a groove adapted to slidably receive a wire guide.

42. The wire guide holder of claim 41, wherein the groove forms a first width and the wire guide forms a second width, wherein the first width is larger than the second width.

43. The wire guide holder of claim 36, wherein the neck is configured to swivel about the bite block.

44. The wire guide holder of claim 36, further comprising a hinge, wherein the neck is operably attached to the bite block by the hinge.
