Abstract

A method of making, tracking and confirming the receipt of bank deposits by a user to a financial institution is disclosed. The method includes first accessing a user account on a database, entering deposit information including the account number and amount of the intended deposit on the database to create an electronic deposit record, and then encoding the deposit information in a machine readable format. The information is then associated with the encoded deposit information in close proximity with the deposit, creating a deposit package. The package is then transmitted to a financial institution or armored car carrier where the machine readable encoded deposit information is read and transmitted to a database that contains information about the account and status of the deposit.

Claims

1. A method of making, tracking and confirming the receipt of bank deposits by a user to a financial institution comprising;

accessing a user account on a database,

entering deposit information on said database to create an electronic deposit record, said information comprising the amount of the intended deposit;

encoding said deposit information in a machine readable format to create a code;

associating said encoded deposit information in close proximity with a deposit creating a deposit package;

transmitting said deposit package to a financial institution; and

reading said code thereby creating a signal and transmitting said signal to said database and updating information in said database from said reading thereby providing further information regarding the status of said deposit.

2. The method recited in claim 1, further comprising notifying said user when said deposit has been received and said information has been updated thereby confirming the reception of said deposit package by said financial institution.

3. The method recited in claim 1, further comprising notifying said financial institution when an electronic deposit record has been created.

4. The method recited in claim 3, further comprising notifying said user when said code has not been read after a predetermined time has elapsed after the creation of said electronic deposit record.

5. The method recited in claim 1 wherein said database is provided on a secure internet site.

6. The method recited in claim 1 wherein said bank deposit comprises currency.

7. The method recited in claim 1 wherein said machine readable code comprises a two dimensional bar code.

8. The method system recited in claim 1 wherein said machine readable code comprises a radio frequency identification tag.

9. The method recited in claim 1 wherein said bank deposit information comprises the identity of a depositor, the account number of the depositor, and the total sum of the deposit.

10. The method recited in claim 2 wherein said notification comprises transmitting said confirmation of reception of said deposit via e-mail.

11. The method recited in claim 2 wherein said notification comprises transmitting said confirmation of reception of said deposit and confirmation of the contents of the deposit via e-mail.

12. The method recited in claim 2 wherein said notification comprises transmitting said confirmation of the deposit reception via a wireless communication transmission.

13. A system for making, tracking and confirming the receipt of bank deposits comprising;

data input means for inputting data relating to a deposit transaction;

a plurality of computer processors including a central processor at least one memory for storing data relating to deposit transactions;

a communication link between said processors and said memory

means to create machine readable code from said data relating to a deposit transaction;

code reading means for reading said machine readable code thereby creating a signal and a processor for processing said signal and for transmitting said digital signal to said central processor.

14. The system as recited in claim 13, wherein said means to create machine readable code is a program that converts said data relating to a deposit transaction to a two dimensional bar code.

15. The system recited in claims 13 further comprising input fields and input control functions wherein predetermined prompts are displayed to a user in response to user input depending on predetermined input criteria.

16. The system recited in claims 15 wherein said predetermined input criteria comprises the amount of the deposit.

17. The system recited in claims 15 wherein said predetermined input criteria comprises the time of day when the user completes a deposit record.

18. The system recited in claim 13 wherein said means to create a machine readable code comprise a program to covert said data relating to a deposit transaction to a two dimensional bar code and a printer to print said code.

19. The system recited in claims 13 wherein said means to create a machine readable code comprise a program to covert said data relating to a deposit transaction to a signal and means to transmit said signal to an RFID tag.

20. The system recited in claim 19 further comprising an RFID tag.

21. The system recited in claim 13 wherein said automatic reading means comprises an optical scanner.

22. The system recited in claim 13 wherein said automatic reading means comprises an antenna to receive a radio signal, a signal reader and RFID middleware that associates information stored on a RFID tag to a user account.

23. The system recited in claim 13 wherein said code reading means further comprises means to determine the time, date, location of the read and means to transmit said information from the code and information regarding the time, location and date to the central server.

24. The system recited in claim 13 wherein said code reading means further comprises means to determine the time, date, and a memory that contains information regarding the identity of the reader equipment and means to transmit said information from the code and information regarding the time, location and date to the central server.

25. The system recited in claim 13 further comprising means to automatically communicate to a user that the code reading means has read the code.

26. The system recited in claim 25 wherein said means to communicate comprises a program for sending an electronic mail message

27. The system recited in claim 25 wherein said means to communicate comprises a program for sending a wireless communication.

28. The system as recited in claim 19 wherein said RFID tag operates in the UHF range.

29. The system as recited in claim 19 wherein a code readers is located on a vehicle used by a deposit package carrier.

30. The system as recited in claim 19 wherein said code reader is located at a entrance to a drop vault.

31. The system as recited in claim 21 wherein said optical scanner is a hand held mobile optical scanner and said scanner has means to communicate with said central server.
