Abstract

An implementation of a technology is described herein for deriving robust non-local characteristics and quantizing such characteristics for blind watermarking of a digital good.

Claims

1. A method facilitating protection of digital signals, the method comprising:

partitioning a digital signal into segments;

for one or more segments;

calculating statistics of a segment that are representative of that segment;

quantizing such statistics of a segment;

generating a marked signal approximately equivalent to a combination of the digital signal and the combination of the quantized statistics of the one or more segments.

2. A method as recited in claim 1 further comprising normalizing amplitude of a digital signal, wherein such signal is an original, unmarked signal.

3. A method as recited in claim 1 further comprising transforming the signal.

4. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein the partitioning comprises pseudorandomly segmenting the signal.

5. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein the partitioning comprises pseudorandomly segmenting the signal, wherein such segments are adjacent and non-contiguous.

6. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein the statistics of the calculating comprises one or more finite order moments of a segment.

7. A method as recited in claim 1 further comprising determining a delta-sequence that is representative of the combination of the quantized statistics of the one or more segments.

8. A method as recited in claim 1 further comprising determining a pseudorandom delta-sequence that when combined with the digital signal approximate a combination of the digital signal and the quantized statistics of the one or more segments.

9. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein the generating comprises embedding a watermark via quantization index modulation (QIM).

10. A modulated signal embodied on one or more computer-readable media and generated in accordance with the acts recited in claim 1.

11. One or more computer-readable media having computer-executable instructions that, when executed by a computer, performs the method as recited in claim 1.

12. A computer comprising one or more computer-readable media having computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the computer, perform the method as recited in claim 1.

13. A method as recited in claim 1, wherein the digital signal is selected from a group consisting of a digital audio signal, a digital music signal, a digital image signal, a digital video signal, and a digital multimedia signal.

14. One or more computer-readable media having computer-executable instructions that, when executed by a computer, performs acts for facilitating protection of digital signals, the acts comprising:

pseudorandomly partitioning a digital signal into segments;

for each of a plurality segments;

calculating statistics of a subject segment that are representative of that segment;

quantizing such statistics of the subject segment;

generating a marked signal approximately equivalent to a combination of the digital signal and the combination of the quantized statistics of the plurality segments.

15. One or more media as recited in claim 14 further comprising normalizing amplitude of a digital signal, wherein such signal is an original, unmarked signal.

16. One or more media as recited in claim 14 further comprising transforming the signal.

17. One or more media as recited in claim 14, wherein the segments are adjacent and non-contiguous.

18. One or more media as recited in claim 14, wherein the statistics of the calculating comprises one or more finite order moments of a segment.

19. One or more media as recited in claim 14, wherein the marked signal generated by the generating act is equivalent to a combination of the digital signal and the combination of the quantized statistics of the plurality segments.

20. One or more media as recited in claim 14 further comprising determining a delta-sequence that is representative of the combination of the quantized statistics of the one or more segments.

21. One or more media as recited in claim 14 further comprising determining a pseudorandom delta-sequence that when combined with the digital signal approximate a combination of the digital signal and the quantized statistics of the one or more segments.

22. One or more media as recited in claim 14, wherein the generating comprises embedding a watermark via quantization index modulation (QIM).

23. A modulated signal embodied on one or more computer-readable media and generated by one or more computer-readable media having computer-executable instructions that, when executed by a computer, perform acts as recited in claim 14.

24. A computer comprising one or more computer-readable media as recited in claim 14.

25. One or more media as recited in claim 14, wherein the digital signal is selected from a group consisting of a digital audio signal, a digital music signal, a digital image signal, a digital video signal, and a digital multimedia signal.

26. A system for facilitating the protection of digital signals, the system comprising:

a partitioner configured to segment a digital signal;

a segment-statistics calculator configured to calculate statistics of a segment that are representative of that segment;

a segment quantizer configured to quantize such statistics of a segment

a signal marker configured to generate a marked signal approximately equivalent to a combination of the digital signal and the combination of the quantized statistics of the one or more segments.

27. A system as recited in claim 26, wherein the partitioner is further configured to pseudorandomly segment the signal.

28. A system as recited in claim 26, wherein the partitioner is further configured to pseudorandomly segment the signal, wherein such segments are adjacent and non-contiguous.
