Abstract

In order to cause effective function when a system adopting a conventional settlement card is shifted to a system adopting a settlement card of IC card type and to enable a significant contribution to proliferation of the settlement card of IC card type, when a person who has input authentication data is authenticated as a user of a card by an authentication section, transaction data read by a magnetic stripe reader and transaction authentication data read by a memory reader are transmitted to a host server from transaction terminal equipment. The host server conducts a transaction through use of the transaction data and the transaction authentication data, both being output from the transaction terminal equipment. When the transaction is conducted, a memory writer writes data into memory of the card or rewrites data recorded in the memory.

Claims

1. A transaction system, comprising:

a card having a magnetic stripe on which are recorded transaction data required for conducting a transaction and memory which enables reading and writing of electronic data and on which are recorded transaction authentication data and user authentication data required to authenticate a user of said card;

transaction terminal equipment having a magnetic stripe reader for reading said data from said magnetic stripe of said card, a memory reader for reading said data from said memory, a memory writer for writing said electronic data into said memory, and an input section for inputting authentication data to be used for authenticating said user of said card;

a host server which is connected to said transaction terminal equipment in a communicable manner and which conducts said transaction on the basis of said data read from said magnetic stripe of said card or from said memory of said card; and

an authentication section which authenticates a person who has input said authentication data as the user of said card by means of comparing said authentication data input by way of said input section with said user authentication data read from said memory by means of said memory reader, wherein

said transaction data read by said magnetic stripe reader and said transaction authentication data read by said memory reader are transmitted from said transaction terminal equipment to said host server when said person who has input said authentication data is authenticated as said user of said card by said authentication section;

said host server conducts said transaction through use of said transaction data and said transaction authentication data, both having been output from said transaction terminal equipment; and

said memory writer writes data into said memory of said card or rewrites data written in said memory when said transaction is carried out.

2. The transaction system according to claim 1, wherein said authentication section is provided in said transaction terminal equipment.

3. The transaction system according to claim 1, wherein said authentication section is provided in said card.

4. The transaction system according to claim 1, wherein transaction requirements set for said user of said card in advance are previously recorded as said electronic data in said memory of said card;

and

said transaction is conducted in accordance with said transaction requirements read by said memory reader when said person who has input said authentication data is authenticated as said user of said card by said authentication section.

5. The transaction system according to claim 1, wherein

data corresponding to a plurality of respective users who can utilize said card are previously recorded as said user authentication data in said memory of said card, and transaction requirements previously set for said respective users are recorded in correspondence with said user authentication data of said respective users in said memory of said card;

when said authentication data input by way of said input section coincide with any one of said user authentication data sets and when the person who has input said authentication data has been authenticated as any one of said plurality of users of said card by said authentication section, said transaction is conducted in accordance with transaction requirements which have been read by said memory reader and correspond to said user.

6. The transaction system according to claim 4, wherein said transaction requirements in said memory of said card are rewritten by said memory writer on the basis of said result of transaction conducted by said host server.

7. The transaction system according to claim 1, further comprising

personal terminal equipment which is connected to said host server in a communicable manner and is held by said user of said card, wherein,

upon receipt, from said personal terminal equipment, of a request to write data into said memory of said card or a request to rewrite data recorded in said memory, said host server retains new data to be written or rewritten and transmits said new data to said transaction terminal equipment when a transaction involving usage of said card which is an object of said request to write or said request to rewrite is first conducted;

and

said memory writer writes said new data into said memory of said card or rewrites said data recorded in said memory to said new data in said transaction terminal equipment.

8. The transaction system according to claim 4, further comprising

personal terminal equipment which is connected to said host server in a communicable manner and is held by said user of said card, wherein,

upon receipt, from said personal terminal equipment, of a request to write data into said memory of said card or a request to rewrite data recorded in said memory, said host server retains new data to be written or rewritten and transmits said new data to said transaction terminal equipment when a transaction involving usage of said card which is an object of said request to write or said request to rewrite is first conducted;

and

said memory writer writes said new data into said memory of said card or rewrites said data recorded in said memory to said new data in said transaction terminal equipment.

9. The transaction system according to claim 7, wherein said user authentication data are written or rewritten as said data by means of said request to write or said request to rewrite.

10. The transaction system according to claim 8, wherein said transaction requirements are written or rewritten as said data by means of said request to write or said request to rewrite.

11. The transaction system according to claim 7, wherein an electronic mail address of said user of said card is written or rewritten as said data by means of said request to write or said request to rewrite.

12. The transaction system according to claim 1, wherein

an electronic mail address of said user of said card is recorded in advance as said electronic data in said memory of said card;

said electronic mail address read by said memory reader is transmitted from said transaction terminal equipment to said host server when said person who has input said authentication data is authenticated as a user of said card by said authentication section; and

said host server transmits details of said transaction to said electronic mail address after completion of said transaction.

13. The transaction system according to claims 1, wherein said memory writer writes details of said transaction into said memory of said card after completion of said transaction.

14. The transaction system according to claim 13, wherein

an electronic mail address of said user of said card is recorded in advance as said electronic data in said memory of said card;

and

said details of said transaction and said electronic mail address are read by said memory reader in response to said request to read said details of transaction recorded in said memory of said card, and said read details of transaction are transmitted to said read electronic mail address.

15. The transaction system according to claim 1, wherein said memory writer writes data pertaining to a transaction counterpart of said user of said card are written into said memory of said card at the time of execution of said transaction.

16. A transaction system comprising:

a card on which are recorded transaction data required for transaction;

transaction terminal equipment having a reader for reading said transaction data from said card; and

a host server which is connected to said transaction terminal equipment in a communicable manner and which conducts said transaction on the basis of said transaction data read from said card, wherein

an electronic mail address of said user of said card is registered in advance in said card or said host server; and

said transaction terminal equipment or said host server transmits said details of said transaction to said electronic mail address every time said transaction is conducted.

17. A transaction system comprising:

a card on which are recorded transaction data required for transaction;

transaction terminal equipment having a reader for reading said transaction data from said card; and

a host server which is connected to said transaction terminal equipment in a communicable manner and which conducts said transaction on the basis of said transaction data read from said card, wherein

a writer for registering in said card data pertaining to a transaction counterpart of said user of said card at the time of execution of said transaction is provided in said transaction terminal equipment is provided in said transaction terminal equipment.

Transaction terminal equipment for making an access to a card having a magnetic stripe on which are recorded transaction data required to conduct a transaction and memory which enables reading and writing of electronic data and on which are recorded transaction authentication data and user authentication data required to authenticate a user of said card, the terminal equipment comprising:

a magnetic stripe reader for reading said data from said magnetic stripe of said card, and a memory reader for reading said data from said memory;

a memory writer for writing said electronic data into said memory; and

an input section for inputting authentication data to be used for authenticating said user of said card, wherein

said terminal equipment is connected, in a communicable manner, to a host server which conducts said transaction;

said data read from said magnetic stripe of said card and from said memory are transmitted to said host server when the person who has input said authentication data is authenticated as a user of said card as a result of said authentication data input by way of said input section being compared with said user authentication data read from the memory by mean of said memory reader; and

said memory writer writes data into said memory of said card or rewrites data recorded in said memory when said transaction is conducted.

19. The transaction terminal equipment according to claim 18, further comprising:

an authentication section which authenticates the person who has input said authentication data as said user of said card, by means of comparing said authentication data input byway of said input section with said user authentication data read from said memory by means of said memory reader, wherein

said transaction data read by said magnetic stripe reader and said transaction authentication data read by said memory reader are transmitted to said host server when said person who has input said authentication data is authenticated as said user of said card by said authentication section.

20. The transaction terminal equipment according to claim 18, wherein details of said transaction are transmitted to an electronic mail address of said user of said card registered in said card in advance, every time said transaction is conducted.
