1. A method for increasing cerebral blood flow, comprising the steps of:

  • inserting a catheter into the descending aorta, the catheter having a proximal end, a distal end, a first expandable member mounted on the distal end, and a second expandable member mounted on the distal end proximal the first expandable member;

    locating the first expandable member upstream from the takeoff of the renal arteries;

    locating the second expandable member downstream from the takeoff of the renal arteries; and

    expanding the first expandable member to at least partially occlude blood flow in the aorta.
