Abstract

Some embodiments provide receipt by a telephone of call control signals from an external device, the call control signals associated with a third party call control protocol, and execution of telephone call functionality in accordance with the call control signals.

Claims

1. A method for a telephone, comprising:

receiving call control signals from an external device, the call control signals associated with a third party call control protocol; and

executing telephone call functionality in accordance with the call control signals.

2. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:

transmitting second call control signals to the external device, the second call control signals associated with the third party call control protocol.

3. A method according to claim 1, wherein the call control signals specify a first telephone functionality associated with a first one of a plurality of handsets that are associated with the telephone, and a second telephone functionality associated with a second one of the plurality of handsets.

4. A method for a computing device, comprising:

transmitting call control signals to a telephone, the call control signals associated with a third party call control protocol; and

receiving second call control signals from the telephone, the second call control signals associated with the third party call control protocol.

5. A method according to claim 4, wherein the call control signals specify a first telephone functionality associated with a first one of a plurality of handsets that are associated with the telephone, and a second telephone functionality associated with a second one of the plurality of handsets.

6. A telephone comprising:

a processor; and

a storage device coupled to the processor and storing instructions adapted to be executed by the processor to;

receive call control signals from an external device, the call control signals associated with a third party call control protocol; and

execute telephone call functionality in accordance with the call control signals.

7. A telephone according to claim 6, wherein the call control signals specify a first telephone functionality associated with a first one of a plurality of handsets that are associated with the telephone, and a second telephone functionality associated with a second one of the plurality of handsets.

8. A computing device comprising:

a processor; and

a storage device coupled to the processor and storing instructions adapted to be executed by the processor to;

transmit call control signals to a telephone, the call control signals associated with a third party call control protocol; and

receive second call control signals from a telephone, the second call control signals associated with the third party call control protocol.

9. A computing device according to claim 8, wherein the call control signals specify a first telephone functionality associated with a first one of a plurality of handsets that are associated with the telephone, and a second telephone functionality associated with a second one of the plurality of handsets.

10. A system, comprising:

a telephone; and

an external device coupled to the telephone,

wherein the telephone is to receive call control signals associated with a third party call control protocol from the external device, and to execute telephone call functionality in accordance with the call control signals.

11. A system according to claim 10, Wherein the telephone is to transmit second call control signals associated with the third party call control protocol to the external device.

12. A system according to claim 10, the external device comprising a computing device.

13. A system according to claim 10, the telephone comprising:

a base station; and

a plurality of handsets in communication with the base station.

14. A system according to claim 10, wherein the call control signals specify a first telephone functionality associated with a first one of the plurality of handsets, and a second telephone functionality associated with a second one of the plurality of handsets.
