    wherein the association is evaluated in a first plant population, the first plant population being an established breeding population or a portion thereof;

    wherein the association is evaluated in the first plant population according to a statistical model that incorporates a genotype of the first plant population for a set of genetic markers and a value of the phenotypic trait in the first plant population; and

    , (b) providing the value of the phenotypic trait in at least one member of the target plant population, wherein the providing comprises predicting the value from the association of (a) and from a genotype of the at least one member for the at least one genetic marker associated with the phenotypic trait.
