Abstract

A system for providing relational data for a hierarchically-organized plurality of nodes is provided, such as for providing physical location data of a node in an enterprise network. The system includes a hierarchical database system storing network hierarchy data for the plurality of nodes, such as an LDAP database. A configuration repository system stores relational data associated with one or more of the nodes, such as the room and floor location of each node. The relational data of the configuration repository system is organized in a bottom-up order and the network hierarchy data of the hierarchical database system is organized in a top-down order, such that the location of a node in an organization can be determined by searching using an application programming interface that goes from the node location upwards through the network hierarchy.

Claims

1. A system for providing relational data for a hierarchically-organized plurality of nodes, comprising:

a hierarchical database system storing network hierarchy data for the plurality of nodes; and

a configuration repository system storing relational data associated with one or more of the nodes; and

wherein the relational data of the configuration repository system is organized in a bottom-up order and the network hierarchy data of the hierarchical database system is organized in a top-down order.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein the hierarchical database is an LDAP database.

3. The system of claim 1 wherein the configuration repository system further comprises a profile system storing physical location data.

4. The system of claim 1 wherein the configuration repository system further comprises a collection system storing data value sets.

5. The system of claim 1 wherein the configuration repository system further comprises an association system storing organizational association data.

6. The system of claim 1 wherein the configuration repository system further comprises an application node system storing application specific data.

7. The system of claim 1 wherein the configuration repository system further comprises a user node system storing user specific data.

8. The system of claim 1 wherein the configuration repository system further comprises an application interface system storing one or more application programming interfaces providing interface functionality to the network hierarchy data of the hierarchical database system and the associated relational data of the location database system.

9. A method for providing location data for a processor comprising:

generating an hierarchical database of hierarchical location data for nodes in a network using top-down ordering;

generating a relational database for the nodes of profile data using bottom-up ordering; and

synchronizing the hierarchical database and the relational database so that relational data for a node can be determined using a bottom-up search process in the hierarchical database.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein generating the hierarchical database of hierarchical location data for nodes in the network using top-down ordering comprising generating an LDAP database.

11. The method of claim 9 wherein generating the relational database for the nodes of profile data using bottom-up ordering comprises generating relational physical location data.

12. The method of claim 9 wherein generating the relational database for the nodes of profile data using bottom-up ordering comprises generating relational association location data.

13. The method of claim 9 wherein generating the relational database for the nodes of profile data using bottom-up ordering comprises generating relational application data.

14. The method of claim 9 wherein generating the relational database for the nodes of profile data using bottom-up ordering comprises generating relational user-specific data.

15. The method of claim 9 wherein generating the relational database for the nodes of profile data using bottom-up ordering comprises generating relational data sets of ordered data.

16. The method of claim 9 further comprising locating a data field associated with a node using an application programming interface that navigates the hierarchical database from the location of the node upwards to a parent node having the data field in an associated relational database location.
