Abstract

A stent delivery device comprises a guide member having a proximal end and a distal end, and a stent mounted to the guide member. A restraining member positioned about the stent comprises two or more portions that are held together by one or more actuating members. The one or more actuating members can be positioned by a user in a proximal direction, since the one or more actuating members extend to the proximal end, or handle, of the guide member. When a user moves the one or more actuating members in a proximal direction, the one or more actuating members slide away from the two or more portions, allowing the stent to expand. The stent delivery device can further be configured to include an embolic protection component.

Claims

1. A stent delivery device comprising:

a guide member having a proximal end and a distal end;

a stent mounted to said guide member; and

a restraining member applying a restraining force to at least a portion of said stent to prevent said stent from expanding, said restraining member cooperatively engaged with an actuating member, so that movement of said actuating member in a proximal direction releases said restraining force to deploy said stent.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein said restraining member is at least partially attached to said guide member.

3. The device of claim 1, wherein said restraining member comprises a sleeve having a first end and a second end, and wherein said actuating member passes through multiple interleaved portions of said sleeve between said first end and said second end in a cooperating fashion.

4. The device of claim 3, wherein movement of said actuating member in a proximal direction causes said sleeve to separate into multiple portions.

5. The device of claim 3, wherein said sleeve separates into multiple flanged portions.

6. The device of claim 3, wherein said sleeve is segmented.

7. The device of claim 1, wherein said guide member further comprises a lumen extending from said distal end toward said proximal end.

8. The device of claim 7, further comprising:

a ferrule mounted to said distal end, said ferrule comprising an aperture that communicates with said lumen; and

a tip mounted to a distal end of said ferrule, said tip having an embolic protection device mounted thereon.

9. A stent delivery device comprising:

a guide member having a lumen;

a stent mounted to said guide member; and

a restraining member at least partially attached to said guide member and applying a restraining force to at least a portion of said stent to prevent said stent from expanding, said restraining member cooperating with an actuating member disposed within said lumen and cooperatively engaged to said restraining member so that movement of said actuating member in a proximal direction releases said restraining force to deploy said stent.

10. The device of claim 9, wherein said lumen cooperates with an aperture in said guide member, said restraining member passing from said guide member to said stent through said aperture and said stent being mounted to said guide member distally of said aperture.

11. The device of claim 9, wherein said restraining member is a segmented sleeve configured to release only a portion of said stent at a time as said actuating member is moved in a proximal direction.

12. The device of claim 9, wherein said restraining member is a sleeve comprising a first side having one or more first channels, and a second side having one or more second channels.

13. The device of claim 11, wherein said one or more first channels are formed in corresponding one or more first tongues extending from said first side, and wherein said one or more second channels are formed in corresponding one or more second tongues extending from said second side.

14. The device of claim 11, wherein said first channels are interleaved with said second channels, such that, when said actuating member is positioned through said first channels and said second channels, the first side is secured with respect to the second side.

15. A stent delivery device comprising:

a guide member having a distal end and a lumen extending proximally from said distal end;

a ferrule mounted to said distal end, said ferrule comprising an aperture that communicates with said lumen;

a tip mounted to said ferrule;

a stent mounted to at least one of said ferrule and said tip; and

a restraining member at least partially attached to at least one of said tip, said ferrule, and said guide member, said restraining member selectively applying a restraining force to at least a portion of said stent to prevent said stent from expanding.

16. The device of claim 15, wherein said restraining member comprises an actuating member that is stitched through a sleeve configured to allow only portions of said stent to expand as said actuating member is pulled in a proximal direction.

17. The device of claim 15, wherein said restraining member comprises an actuating member, said actuating member being removable disposed within said lumen and cooperating with said restraining member that at least partially surrounds said stent.

18. The device of claim 15, wherein said restraining member includes an actuating member, said actuating member being removable disposed within said lumen and cooperating with a ligature that at least partially surrounds said stent.

19. The device of claim 15, further comprises an actuating member, said actuating member being removable disposed within said lumen and cooperating with said restraining member in the form of a sleeve that at least partially surrounds said stent.

20. The device of claim 15, wherein said tip further comprises an embolic protection device.

21. The device of claim 15, wherein said restraining member is attached to said stent.

22. The device of claim 15, wherein said guide member further comprises a handle, said handle cooperating with an actuating member removable disposed within said lumen.

23. The device of claim 22, wherein said handle has an outside diameter that is substantially equal to an outside diameter of said guide member.
