Abstract

An open network system transacts communication over on open network. The system includes an input device associated with a non-standard I/O device for obtaining communication transaction data and a client program for generating a communication transaction message in an extended open network protocol with the communication transaction data.

Claims

1. A method for performing a communication transaction over an open network comprising:

obtaining communication transaction data from an input device associated with a non-standard I/O device; and

generating with the communication transaction data a communication transaction message in an extended open network protocol for the non-standard I/O device.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving a communication transaction denial message in an extended open network protocol at the non-standard I/O device in response to the communication transaction message.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

receiving a communication transaction authorization message in an extended open network protocol at the non-standard I/O device in response to the communication transaction message.

4. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

processing the communication transaction message at a server; and

generating a communication transaction denial message in an extended open network protocol.

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

processing the communication transaction message at a server; and

generating a communication transaction authorization message in an extended open network protocol.

6. The method of claim 4 further comprising:

processing the communication transaction denial message at the non-standard I/O device.

7. The method of claim 5 further comprising:

processing the communication transaction authorization message at the non-standard I/O device.

8. A system for performing a communication transaction over an open network comprising:

an input device associated with a non-standard I/O device for obtaining communication transaction data; and

a client program for generating with the communication transaction data a communication transaction message in an extended open network protocol.

9. The system of claim 8 wherein the client program executes in a telephone.

10. The system of claim 8 wherein the input device is a keypad associated with a telephone.

11. The system of claim 8 wherein the input device is a screen of a screen phone.

12. The system of claim 9 wherein the client program processes a communication transaction denial message in an extended open network protocol received at the telephone.

13. The system of claim 9 wherein the client program processes a communication transaction authorization message in an extended open network protocol received at the telephone.

14. The system of claim 9 further comprising:

a server for processing the communication transaction message received from the telephone; and

an application program for generating a communication transaction denial message in an extended open network protocol.

15. The system of claim 9 further comprising:

a server for processing the communication transaction message received from the telephone; and

an application program for generating a communication transaction authorization message in an extended open network protocol.

16. The system of claim 14 wherein the client program processes the communication transaction denial message received from the server.

17. The system of claim 15 wherein the client program processes the communication transaction authorization message received from the server.

18. The system of claim 8 wherein the client program generates the communication transaction message for a telephone.

19. A system for initiating a communication transaction over an open network comprising:

a keypad associated with a telephone for obtaining communication transaction data; and

a client program executing in the telephone for generating with the communication transaction data a communication transaction message in an extended open network protocol.
