Abstract

An electric toothbrush system or toothbrush head is disclosed. The cleaning head in accordance with the embodiments of the invention includes at least one movable section that is configured to rotate, vibrate, oscillate or a combination thereof and has at least one prophy-cup structure and/or one or more polishing elements protruding therefrom. Preferably, the cleaning head also includes bristle tufts. The cleaning head can be configured to detachably couple to a motorized handle. The motorized handle can include a rechargeable battery that is configured to couple to a recharging station.

Claims

1. An oral-care device comprising a cleaning head, the cleaning head comprising a movable section comprising a prophy-cup polishing element and bristle tufts protruding therefrom.

2. The device of claim 1, wherein at least a portion of the bristle tufts surround prophy-cup polishing element.

3. The device of claim 1, wherein the prophy-cup polishing element surrounds at least a portion of the bristle tufts.

4. The device of claim 2, wherein at least a portion of the bristle tufts protrude to a height greater than a height of wiping edges of the prophy-cup polishing element.

5. The device of claim 1, wherein the cleaning head further comprises nodule polishing element.

6. The device of claim 1, further comprising a motorized handle configured to power the movable section.

7. The device of claim 1, further comprising a curved squeegee polishing element.

8. The device of claim 1, wherein the prophy-cup polishing element comprises wiping fins.

9. The device of claim 8, wherein the wiping fins extend inward from an inner wall of the prophy-cup polishing element.

10. The device of claim 1, wherein the wiping fins extend outward from an outer wall of the prophy-cup polishing element.

11. The device of claim 1, wherein wiping edges of the prophy-cup polishing element are contoured.

12. The device of claim 1, further comprising a squeegee segment protruding from the cleaning head.

13. The device of claim 12, wherein the prophy-cup polishing element includes the squeegee segment.

14. The device of claim 12, wherein walls of the prophy-cup polishing element are contoured.

15. A device comprising a cleaning head comprising:

a) a movable section comprising;

i) a movable support surface;

ii) a prophy-cup polishing element protruding from the support surface; and

iii) bristle tufts protruding from the support surface; and

b) a powered handle configured to detachably couple to the cleaning head and automatically move the movable support surface.

16. The device of claim 15, wherein at least a portion of the bristle tufts surround the prophy-cup polishing element.

17. The device of claim 15, wherein the prophy-cup polishing element surrounds at least a portion of the bristle tufts.

18. The device of claim 15, wherein at least a portion of the bristle tufts protrude to a height greater than a height of wiping edges of the prophy-cup polishing element.

19. The device of claim 15, wherein cleaning head further comprises nodule polishing element.

20. The device of claim 15, further comprising a motorized handle configured to power the movable section.

21. The device of claim 15, wherein the movable section further comprises a squeegee polishing element.

22. The device of claim 15, wherein the prophy-cup polishing element comprises wiping fins.

23. An oral-car system comprising:

a) movable sections with polishing elements and bristles; and

b) a motorized handle configured to automatically move the movable sections.

24. The oral-care system of claim 23, wherein the polishing elements are polishing elements selected from the group consisting of prophy-cup polishing elements, nodule polishing elements and squeegee polishing elements.
