Abstract
The present invention provides an FM Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) modulation process that enable high-speed data communications over any transmission media and networks. The process is implemented with a modem device modulator and demodulator that provides communication with several other modem devices along any communication media that uses an FM OFDM modulation technique, a physical transmission medium such as power lines, or wireless (air), or cable, or twisted pairs communication media.

36. An apparatus for transmitting an orthogonal frequency division multiplex communication signal over a forward channel of an electrical power line comprising:

a digital signal processor adapted to processing an incoming baseband signal and outputting an orthogonal frequency division multiplex output signal; and
a first coupler operatively connected to an output of the digital signal processor, said coupler being adapted to providing the output signal from the digital signal processor to the power line, wherein the digital signal processor includes at least one of a code selection unit and a modulation selection unit, said at least one code selection unit and said modulation selection unit being capable of selecting respectively, a particular error correction code and a particular type of modulation based on a quality of the forward channel. - View Dependent Claims (37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42)

43. An apparatus for receiving an orthogonal frequency division multiplex communication signal transmitted over a forward channel of an electrical power line comprising:

50. A method of communicating an electrical signal over a forward channel of an electrical power line comprising the steps of:

connecting one pair of terminals of respective transmitting and receiving couplers to the electrical power line;
connecting respective modulating and demodulating digital signal processors to a second pair of terminals of the respective transmitting and receiving couplers; and
connecting a source of a baseband signal to an input of the modulating digital signal processor, wherein the modulating digital signal processor modulates the baseband signal received from the source of the baseband signal with an orthogonal frequency division multiplex type of modulation;
transmitting the orthogonal frequency division multiplexed baseband signal over the power line; and
