Abstract

An apparatus for checking originator information of a message in a mobile communication system includes a server for detecting originator information, such as an originator phone number, identification information and authentication state information of a received message. A mobile switching center establishes a transmission path for the text message on the basis of the detected recipient information, and transmits the text message, the detected originator phone number, the identification information and the authentication state information through the established path.

Claims

1. An apparatus for checking originator information of a message in a mobile communication system comprising:

a server for receiving a message and for detecting originator information associated with the received message, wherein the originator information includes recipient information identifying an intended recipient of the received message, an originator phone number and identification information of a type of source sending the received message; and

a mobile switching center (MSC) for establishing a transmission path for the received message on the basis of the detected recipient information, and for transmitting the received message, the detected originator phone number and the identification information through the established path to the recipient.

2. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the detected originator phone number and the identification information is transmitted on a different channel than the message.

3. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the server is connected to a public network and receives messages and associated originator information over the public network.

4. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the message is sent as part of a short message service (SMS), a long message service (LMS) or a multimedia message service (MMS) of the mobile communication system.

5. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the identification information of the type of source indicates a mobile station (MS), a computer or a fixed line phone.

6. The apparatus of claim 5, wherein the MS, the computer or the fixed line phone are connected to the MSC through a public network.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the MSC also transmits authentication state information along with the received message through the established path to the recipient.

8. The apparatus of claim 7, wherein the authentication state information indicates whether the originator phone number is a specific number which has been registered with the mobile communication system.

9. A mobile communication system comprising:

a server for receiving a message and for detecting originator information associated with the received message, wherein the originator information includes recipient information identifying an intended recipient of the received message, an originator phone number and identification information of a type of source sending the received message;

a mobile switching center (MSC) for establishing a transmission path for the received message on the basis of the detected recipient information, and for transmitting the received message, the detected originator phone number and the identification information through the established path to the recipient; and

a mobile station (MS) for receiving the message, the originator phone number and the identification information transmitted by the MSC, and displaying them on a display unit.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the display unit is a liquid crystal display (LCD).

11. The system according to claim 9, wherein the detected originator phone number and the identification information is transmitted on a different channel than the message.

12. The system according to claim 9, wherein the server is connected to a public network and receives messages and associated originator information over the public network.

13. The system according to claim 9, wherein the message is sent as part of a short message service (SMS), a long message service (LMS) or a multimedia message service (MMS) of the mobile communication system.

14. The system according to claim 9, wherein the identification information of the type of source indicates a mobile station (MS), a computer or a fixed line phone.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the MS, the computer or the fixed line phone are connected to the MSC through a public network.

16. The system of claim 9, wherein the MSC also transmits authentication state information along with the received message through the established path to the recipient.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the authentication state information indicates whether the originator phone number is a specific number which has been registered with the mobile communication system.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein the authentication information is presented on the display unit of the MS.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the authentication information is presented on the display unit in combination with the identification information, wherein the identification information is presented in certain color when the originator of the message is registered, and the identification information is presented in different color when the originator of the message is not registered.

20. A method for checking originator information of a message in a mobile communication system comprising:

receiving a message;

detecting originator information associated with the received message, wherein the originator information includes recipient information identifying an intended recipient of the received message, an originator phone number and identification information of a type of source sending the received message;

establishing a transmission path for the received message on the basis of the detected recipient information; and

transmitting the received message, the detected originator phone number and the identification information through the established path to the recipient.

21. The method of claim 20, further comprising the steps of:

receiving the transmitted message at a mobile station (MS); and

displaying the message, the originator phone number and the identification information on a display unit.

22. The method according to claim 20, wherein said transmitting step includes transmitting the detected originator phone number and the identification information on a different channel than the message.

23. The method according to claim 20, wherein said receiving step includes receiving messages and associated originator information over a public network.

24. The method according to claim 20, wherein the message is sent as part of a short message service (SMS), a long message service (LMS) or a multimedia message service (MMS) of the mobile communication system.

25. The method according to claim 20, wherein the identification information of the type of source indicates a mobile station (MS), a computer or a fixed line phone.

26. The method of claim 25, wherein the MS, the computer or the fixed line phone send messages and associated originator information through a public network.

27. The method of claim 20, wherein said transmitting step also includes transmitting authentication state information along with the received message through the established path to the recipient.

28. The method of claim 27, wherein the authentication state information indicates whether the originator phone number is a specific number which has been registered with the mobile communication system.

29. The method of claim 28, further comprising the steps of:

receiving the transmitted message at a mobile station (MS); and

displaying the message, the originator phone number, the identification information and the authentication information on a display unit.

30. The method of claim 29, wherein the authentication information is presented on the display unit in combination with the identification information, wherein the identification information is presented in certain color when the originator of the message is registered, and the identification information is presented in different color when the originator of the message is not registered.
