Abstract

Systems and methods of the present invention allow for providing suggested domain names on parked webpages. A parked webpage is placed on a website associated with an original domain name. A domain name module generates suggested domain names based on the properties of the original domain name (e.g. WHOIS records). Suggested domain names are displayed on the parked webpage. A user may visit the parked webpage with the intention to check if the original domain name is available for registration. The original domain name is already registered, but the user may notice an appealing domain name among the suggested domain names. Then the user may register, purchase, or backorder it. The invention may be used as a marketing technique for registration, sale, or resale of the domain names.

Claims

1. A system for providing targeted ads for a domain name advertiser on parked webpages comprising:

a) a parked webpage associated with an original domain name,

b) an advertisement having an ability to display one or more suggested domain names on said parked webpage, and

c) a domain name module, wherein said domain name module is a technological means for producing said one or more suggested domain names based on properties of said original domain name, wherein said suggested domain name differs from said original domain name.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein said parked webpage is a “

for sale”

webpage.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein said parked webpage is a “

coming soon”

webpage.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein said parked webpage is an “

under construction”

webpage.

5. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

d) a registrant, wherein said registrant is a person or entity who registered said original domain name.

6. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

d) a user having an ability to view said parked webpage with said advertisement through a web browser.

7. The system of claim 1, further comprising:

d) a domain name advertiser, wherein said domain name advertiser maintains said domain name module.

8. The system of claim 7, wherein said domain name advertiser is a domain name registry.

9. The system of claim 7, wherein said domain name advertiser is a domain name registrar.

10. The system of claim 7, wherein said domain name advertiser is a domain name reseller.

11. The system of claim 7, wherein said domain name advertiser provides content for said parked webpage.

12. The system of claim 1, wherein said domain name module comprises a domain name generator.

13. The system of claim 1, wherein said domain name module comprises a domain name database.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein said domain name database stores active domain names.

15. The system of claim 13, wherein said domain name database stores expired domain names.

16. The system of claim 13, wherein said domain name database stores domain names with the “

on hold”

status.

17. The system of claim 13, wherein said domain name database stores domain names available for sale through a secondary market.

18. The system of claim 1, wherein said properties of said original domain name comprise said original domain name itself.

19. The system of claim 1, wherein said properties of said original domain name comprise a registration data of said original domain name.

20. A system for providing suggested domain names on parked webpages comprising:

a) a parked webpage, wherein said parked webpage is associated with an original domain name,

b) one or more suggested domain names displayed on said parked webpage, and

c) a domain name module, wherein said domain name module is a technological means for producing said one or more suggested domain names based on properties of said original domain name, wherein said suggested domain name differs from said original domain name.

21. A method for displaying targeted ads on a parked webpage, comprising the steps of:

a) placing a parked webpage on a website associated with an original domain name, and

b) placing an advertisement on said parked webpage, wherein said advertisement displays one or more suggested domain names based on properties of said original domain name, wherein said suggested domain name differs from said original domain name.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein said parked webpage is a “

for sale”

webpage.

23. The method of claim 21, wherein said parked webpage is a “

coming soon”

webpage.

24. The method of claim 21, wherein said parked webpage is an “

under construction”

webpage.

25. The method of claim 21, further comprising a step of:

c) registering said original domain name prior to said placing said parked webpage on said website.

26. The method of claim 21, wherein step b) comprising the steps of:

b1) analyzing said properties of said original domain name,

b2) generating said one or more suggested domain names, and

b3) displaying said one or more suggested domain names on said advertisement.

27. The method of claim 21, further comprising the steps of:

c) viewing said parked webpage,

d) clicking on said advertisement, and

e) displaying a new webpage, wherein said new webpage shows availability of said one or more suggested domain names for registration, purchase, or backorder.

28. The method of claim 27, further comprising a step of:

f) registering said one or more suggested domain names.

29. The method of claim 27, further comprising a step of:

f) purchasing said one or more suggested domain names.

30. The method of claim 27, further comprising a step of:

f) backordering said one or more suggested domain names.

31. The method of claim 21, wherein said properties of said original domain name comprise said original domain name itself.

32. The method of claim 21, wherein said properties of said original domain name comprise a registration data of said original domain name.

33. A method for displaying suggested domain names on a parked webpage, comprising the steps of:

a) placing a parked webpage on a website associated with an original domain name, and

b) placing one or more suggested domain names on said parked webpage, wherein said one or more suggested domain names are generated based on properties of said original domain name, wherein said suggested domain name differs from said original domain name.
