Abstract

A real-time music information retrieval system and methods for providing desired music information via text message to radio or television stations listeners through wireless communication devices. Listeners could retrieve information for the song that is currently being played at the radio and television station, or the songs that have previously been played. A system and method is provided to automatically send an alert message the radio and television station listeners of upcoming music broadcasting events.

Claims

1. A method for providing real-time music information to a radio or television station listener through a wireless communication device, wherein the wireless communication device is capable of receiving text messages, the method comprising the steps of:

receiving a request information from the wireless communication device during or immediately following a music broadcasting at a radio or television station;

using the request information from the wireless communication device to identify the radio or television station responsible for the music broadcasting;

formulating a text-based reply based upon the request information; and

transmitting the text-based reply to the wireless communication device.

The method for providing real-time music information to a radio or television station listener through a wireless communication device according to claim 1, further comprising the step of querying to a central database, wherein the central database includes an interface to a plurality of radio and television station databases containing the requested music information.

The method for providing real-time music information to a radio or television station listener through a wireless communication device according to claim 1, wherein the request information is a textual message including identification information associated with the radio or television station responsible for the music broadcasting.

The method for providing real-time music information to a radio or television station listener through a wireless communication device according to claim 1, wherein the request information is a textual message including identification information associated with the radio or television station responsible for the music broadcasting and an action command associated with the music broadcasting.

5. The method for providing real-time music information to a radio or television station listener through a wireless communication device according to claim 1, wherein the text-based reply is a text message, a photo, or a multi-media message.

6. A method for obtaining music information through a wireless communication device, wherein the wireless communication device is capable of receiving text messages, the method comprising the steps of:

submitting a request from the wireless communication device during or immediately following a music broadcasting at a radio or television station;

receiving a text-based reply through the wireless communication device, the text-based reply having been generated based upon the request.

7. The method for obtaining music information through a wireless communication device according to claim 6, further including the step of identifying the radio or television station responsible for the music broadcasting.

8. The method for obtaining music information through a wireless communication device according to claim 6, further including the step of dialing a station-specific phone number.

9. The method for obtaining music information through a wireless communication device according to claim 6, wherein the request is a textual message including identification information associated with the radio or television station responsible for the music broadcasting.

The method for obtaining music information through a wireless communication device according to claim 6, wherein the request is a textual message including identification information associated with the radio or television station responsible for the music broadcasting and an action command associated with the music broadcasting.

11. The method for obtaining music information through a wireless communication device according to claim 6, further comprising the step of submitting a sample of the music by holding the wireless communication device to the radio or television during the music broadcasting.

12. The method for obtaining music information through a wireless communication device according to claim 6, further comprising the step of saving the text-based reply on the wireless communication device.

13. A method for providing notification about music information to a radio or television station listeners through a wireless mobile device capable of receiving text message, wherein the music is to be broadcasted by the station in a specified time period, the method comprising:

receiving a plurality of requests for the future music broadcasting, the requests including a plurality of identifiers associated with persons to whom an alert message is to be communicated prior to the broadcasting;

to a central database about the future music broadcasting;

formulating text-based alert messages; and

communicating the text-based alert messages to one or more radio or television station listeners through a wireless communication devices capable of receiving text messages using individual identifiers to identify persons to whom said alert message is to be communicated.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the central database has an interface to a plurality of broadcast station databases containing music information.

15. The method of claim 13, wherein the plurality of requests is submitted by the radio or television station listener by text messaging in a plurality of predetermined song codes.

16. The method of claim 13, further comprising the step of generating a playlist based upon the plurality of requests for the future music broadcasting.

17. The method of claim 13, wherein the alert message is communicated to a person who submitted the request.

18. The method of claim 13, wherein the alert message is communicated to a plurality of recipients identified by a person who submitted the request.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein a supplemental notification is generated and communicated to the person who submitted the request after the alert message is communicated to the plurality of recipients.

20. The method of claim 13, further including the step of receiving a personal message to be communicated with the alert message.

21. The method of claim 20, wherein the personal message is a voice message, a text message, a photo, or a multimedia message.

22. A real-time music information retrieval system for providing music information to a radio or television station listener through a wireless communication device, the system comprising:

i) a broadcast receiver for receiving broadcast transmissions from a plurality of radio or television stations;

ii) a wireless communication device capable of transmitting and receiving text messages, and

iii) a control system for generating and transmitting a text message reply containing music information to the radio and television station listener;

wherein the control system includes,

a) a central database containing music information; and

b) a means for continuously monitoring broadcasting schedules of the plurality of radio and television stations.

23. The real-time music information retrieval system according to claim 22, further includes an interface to a plurality of radio and television station databases for automatically querying music information from the radio and television stations database.

24. The real-time music information retrieval system according to claim 22, further includes means for generating and transmitting a textual alert message to a plurality of pre-identified recipients.
