Abstract

A system and method of encoding and transmitting data includes a data receiver/carrier transmitter which transmits a sinusoidal carrier signal to a data source/carrier receiver. The data source encodes at least one transmission channel during a corresponding period. The carrier is reflected back to the data receiver with an amplitude proportional to the degree of applied impedance such that the total amplitude of the transmitted and reflected cycles represents encoded data, yet the underlying carrier signal remains an un-modulated sinusoid.

Claims

1. A method of transmitting data, the method comprising:

transmitting at least one cycle of a sinusoidal signal having an amplitude from a carrier transmitter to a carrier receiver;

generating a corresponding at least one cycle of a reflected signal having an amplitude determined by a corresponding data value;

transmitting the corresponding at least one cycle of the reflected signal from the carrier receiver to the carrier transmitter; and

decoding the at least one cycle of the reflected signal to identify the corresponding data value.

2. The method of claim 1, and further comprising:

storing the data value in a memory component.

3. The method of claim 1, and further comprising:

generating a continuous sinusoidal signal within the carrier transmitter; and

passing the continuous sinusoidal signal through a buffer such that the signal can only travel in a forward direction.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein generating a corresponding at least one cycle of a reflected signal further comprises:

altering an impedance of circuitry through which the at least one cycle of the sinusoidal signal is transmitted in generating the corresponding at least one cycle of the reflected signal based upon the data value.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein decoding the at least one cycle of the reflected signal further comprises:

determining the amplitude of the corresponding reflected signal cycle; and

identifying the data value associated with the determined amplitude of the corresponding reflected signal cycle.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein generating a corresponding at least one cycle of a reflected signal further comprises:

generating the corresponding at least one cycle of the reflected signal having the amplitude determined by a corresponding digital data value.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein generating a corresponding at least one cycle of a reflected signal further comprises:

generating the corresponding at least one cycle of the reflected signal having the amplitude determined by a corresponding binary data value consisting of at least one data bit.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein generating a corresponding at least one cycle of a reflected signal further comprises:

generating the corresponding at least one cycle of the reflected signal having the amplitude determined by a corresponding hexadecimal data value.

9. A method of transmitting data, the method comprising:

transmitting a sinusoidal signal having an amplitude from a carrier transmitter to an impedance control stage of a carrier receiver;

producing a reflected signal within the carrier receiver in response to a combination of the sinusoidal signal and an impedance value representative of a data value available for transmission;

transmitting the reflected signal to the carrier transmitter; and

decoding the reflected signal to identify the data value.

10. The method of claim 9, and further comprising:

storing the data value in a memory component.

11. The method of claim 9, and further comprising:

generating a continuous sinusoidal signal within the carrier transmitter; and

passing the continuous sinusoidal signal through a buffer such that the signal can only travel in a forward direction.

12. The method of claim 9, wherein providing a reflected signal with the carrier receiver further comprises:

altering an impedance of circuitry through which the sinusoidal signal is transmitted in producing the reflected signal based upon the data value.

13. The method of claim 9, wherein producing a reflected signal further comprises:

producing the reflected signal having an amplitude determined by a combination of an amplitude of the sinusoidal signal and the impedance value representative of the data value.

14. The method of claim 9, wherein decoding the reflected signal further comprises:

determining an amplitude of the reflected signal; and

identifying the data value associated with the determined amplitude of the reflected signal.

15. The method of claim 9, wherein producing a reflected signal further comprises:

producing the reflected signal in response to the combination of the sinusoidal signal and an impedance value representative of a digital data valve.

16. The method of claim 9, wherein producing a reflected signal further comprises:

producing the reflected signal in response to the combination of the sinusoidal signal and an impedance vale representative of a binary data value consisting of at least one data bit.

17. The method of claim 9, wherein producing a reflected signal further comprises:

producing the reflected signal in response to the combination of the sinusoidal signal and an impedance value representative of a hexadecimal data value.

18. A system to transmit data, the system comprising:

a carrier transmitter for providing a carrier signal;

a data source configured to provide an output signal representative of at least one data value;

a data encoder configured to receive the carrier signal and the output signal of the data source and configured to produce a reflected signal based upon the combination of the carrier signal and the output signal of the data source, the reflected signal representative of the at least one data value; and

a data decoder configured to receive the reflected signal representative of the at least one data value.

19. The system of claim 18, and further comprising:

a data receiver electrically coupled to the data decoder configured to store the at least one data value.

20. The system of claim 18, and further comprising:

a signal buffer electrically coupled between the signal generator and the data encoder configured to prevent the reflected signal from loading the signal generator.

21. The system of claim 18, wherein the carrier transmitter further comprises:

a sinusoidal generator for generating a continuous sinusoidal signal.

22. The system of claim 18, wherein the data encoder further comprises:

impedance controller circuitry configured to alter the impedance of a transmission channel, based upon the output signal of the data source, thereby producing the reflected signal representative of the at least one data value.

23. The system of claim 22, and further comprising:

the carrier transmitter for providing a continuous sinusoidal signal having an amplitude.

24. The system of claim 18, and further comprising:

a digital data source configured to provide the output signal representative of at least one digital data value.

25. The system of claim 18, and further comprising:

a binary data source configured to provide an output signal representative of at least one binary data value.

26. The system of claim 18, and further comprising:

a hexadecimal data source configured to provide an output signal representative of at least one hexadecimal data value.

27. A method of transmitting data, the method comprising:

transmitting a sinusoidal carrier signal having an amplitude on a transmission channel from a data receiver to a data transmitter;

encoding at least one cycle of the sinusoidal carrier signal by altering an impedance of the transmission channel during a corresponding cycle; and

reflecting the at least one cycle of the sinusoidal carrier signal from the data transmitter to the data receiver having an amplitude proportional to a degree of the altered impedance, such that a combination of the amplitude of the transmitted sinusoidal carrier signal and the reflected sinusoidal carrier signal represents encoded data.

28. The method of claim 27, and further comprising:

determining the combination of the amplitude of the transmitted sinusoidal carrier signal and the reflected sinusoidal carrier signal, thereby decoding the encoded signal.

29. The method of claim 27, wherein encoding the at least one cycle of the sinusoidal carrier signal further comprises:

generating the encoded at least one cycle of the sinusoidal carrier signal having the amplitude determined by a corresponding digital value.

30. The method of claim 29, wherein encoding the at least one cycle of the sinusoidal carrier signal further comprises:

generating the encoded at least one cycle of the sinusoidal carrier signal having the amplitude determined by a corresponding binary value.

31. The method of claim 29, wherein encoding the at least one cycle of the sinusoidal carrier signal further comprises:

generating the encoded at least one cycle of the sinusoidal carrier signal having the amplitude determined by a corresponding hexadecimal value.
