Abstract
A user interface for controlling an external system includes a housing and first and second user interface sensors that may be configured at least partially within the housing. The first user interface sensor generates a first plurality of signals responsive to movement of the housing itself relative to two orthogonal axes. The second user interface sensor generates a second plurality of signals responsive to other user manipulation. In one arrangement, one plurality of signals is interpreted as specifying absolute coordinates while the other plurality is interpreted as specifying relative changes in coordinates. In another arrangement, at least one plurality of signals is subsequently modified, and a combining element may be used to generate a combined output signal. In one application, one plurality of signals is modified by a parameter offsetting operation, while in another application a parameter-range warping operation is employed. In one implementation, multiple arrangements and applications can be selectively invoked.

-
a housing;
a first user interface sensor configured with said housing and generating a first plurality of signals responsive to movement of said housing relative to two orthogonal axes;
a second user interface sensor configured with said housing and generating a second plurality of signals responsive to user manipulation of said second user interface sensor;
an offsetting element inducing an offset on parameters generated responsive to said second plurality of signals to generate modified second user interface sensor signals;
a combining element combining signals generated by said first user interface sensor and said modified second user interface sensor signals to generate an output signal; and
an output providing said output signal. - View Dependent Claims (73, 74, 75, 76)
