Abstract

The present invention relates to media data decoding devices. Embodiments of the present invention pertain to devices that receive scalable media, receive scalable profile data, and generate rendered media data based on the scalable media data and the scalable profile data

Claims

1. A media data decoding apparatus comprising:

a scalable media receiver for receiving scalable media;

a scalable profile data receiver for receiving scalable profile data; and

a renderer that generates media data that is rendered based, at least in part, on said scalable media and said scalable profile data.

2. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 1, wherein said media data decoding apparatus is a legacy decoder.

3. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 1, wherein said scalable profile data is encrypted.

4. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 1, wherein said scalable profile data is unencrypted.

5. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 1 wherein two or more of said scalable media and said scalable profile data are received together in a single file.

6. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 5, wherein said scalable profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said scalable profile data is at the beginning of said file.

7. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 5, wherein said scalable profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said scalable profile data is not at the beginning of said file.

8. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 1, wherein said scalable media decoding apparatus is an apparatus selected from the group consisting of a portable communications device, a stationary computing device, or a digital image capturing device.

9. A media data decoding apparatus comprising:

a scalable media receiver for receiving scalable media;

a protection profile data receiver for receiving protection profile data; and

a renderer that generates media data that is rendered based, at least in part, on said scalable media and said protection profile data.

10. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 9, wherein said media data decoding apparatus is a legacy decoder.

11. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 9, wherein said protection profile data is encrypted.

12. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 9, wherein said protection profile data is unencrypted.

13. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 9 wherein two or more of said scalable media and said protection profile data are received together in a single file.

14. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 13, wherein said protection profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said protection profile data is at the beginning of said file.

15. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 13, wherein said protection profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said protection profile data is not at the beginning of said file.

16. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 9, wherein said scalable media decoding apparatus is an apparatus selected from the group consisting of a portable communications device, a stationary computing device, or a digital image capturing device.

17. A media data decoding apparatus comprising:

a scalable media receiver for receiving scalable media;

a protection profile data receiver for receiving protection profile data;

a scalable profile data receiver for receiving scalable profile data; and

a renderer that generates media data that is rendered based, at least in part, on said scalable media, said scalable profile data, and said protection profile data.

18. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 17, wherein said media data decoding apparatus is a legacy decoder.

19. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 17, wherein said scalable profile data is encrypted.

20. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 17, wherein said scalable profile data is unencrypted.

21. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 17, wherein two or more of said scalable media, said scalable profile data, and said protection profile data are received together in a single file.

22. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 21, wherein said scalable profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said scalable profile data is at the beginning of said file.

23. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 21, wherein said scalable profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said scalable profile data is not at the beginning of said file.

24. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 21, wherein said protection profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said protection profile data is at the beginning of said file.

25. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 21, wherein said protection profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said protection profile data is not at the beginning of said file.

26. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 17, wherein said scalable media decoding apparatus is an apparatus selected from the group consisting of a portable communications device, a stationary computing device, or a digital image capturing device.

27. A media data decoding apparatus comprising:

a scalable media receiver;

a scalable profile data receiver; and

a renderer that generates media data that is rendered based, at least in part, on said scalable media and said scalable profile data.

28. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 27, wherein said media data decoding apparatus is a legacy decoder.

29. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 27, wherein said scalable profile data is encrypted.

30. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 27, wherein said scalable profile data is unencrypted.

31. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 27 wherein two or more of said scalable media and said scalable profile data are received together in a single file.

32. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 31, wherein said scalable profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said scalable profile data is at the beginning of said file.

33. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 31, wherein said scalable profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said scalable profile data is not at the beginning of said file.

34. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 27, wherein said scalable media decoding apparatus is an apparatus selected from the group consisting of a portable communications device, a stationary computing device, or a digital image capturing device.

35. A media data decoding apparatus comprising:

a scalable media receiver;

a protection profile data receiver; and

a renderer that generates media data that is rendered for a particular client based, at least in part, on said scalable media and said protection profile data.

36. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 35, wherein said media data decoding apparatus is a legacy decoder.

37. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 35, wherein said protection profile data is encrypted.

38. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 35, wherein said protection profile data is unencrypted.

39. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 35 wherein two or more of said scalable media and said protection profile data are received together in a single file.

40. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 39, wherein said protection profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said protection profile data is at the beginning of said file.

41. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 39, wherein said protection profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said protection profile data is not at the beginning of said file.

42. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 35, wherein said scalable media decoding apparatus is an apparatus selected from the group consisting of a portable communications device, a stationary computing device, or a digital image capturing device.

43. A media data decoding apparatus comprising:

a scalable media receiver;

a protection profile data receiver;

a scalable profile data receiver; and

a renderer that generates media data that is rendered based, at least in part, on scalable media, scalable profile data, and protection profile data.

44. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 43, wherein said media data decoding apparatus is a legacy decoder.

45. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 43, wherein said scalable profile data is encrypted.

46. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 43, wherein said scalable profile data is unencrypted.

47. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 43, wherein two or more of said scalable media, said scalable profile data, and said protection profile data are received together in a single file.

48. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 47, wherein said scalable profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said scalable profile data is at the beginning of said file.

49. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 47, wherein said scalable profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said scalable profile data is not at the beginning of said file.

50. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 47, wherein said protection profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said protection profile data is at the beginning of said file.

53. A media data decoding apparatus comprising:

a scalable media receiver configured to receive scalable media;

a scalable profile data receiver configured to receive scalable profile data; and

a renderer coupled to said scalable media receiver and said scalable profile data receiver, wherein said renderer is adapted to generate media data that is rendered based, at least in part, on said scalable media and said scalable profile data.

54. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 53, wherein said media data decoding apparatus is a legacy decoder.

55. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 53, wherein said scalable profile data is encrypted.

56. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 53, wherein said scalable profile data is unencrypted.

57. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 53 wherein two or more of said scalable media and said scalable profile data are received together in a single file.

58. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 57, wherein said scalable profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said scalable profile data is at the beginning of said file.

59. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 57, wherein said scalable profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said scalable profile data is not at the beginning of said file.

60. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 53, wherein said scalable media decoding apparatus is an apparatus selected from the group consisting of a portable communications device, a stationary computing device, or a digital image capturing device.

61. A media data decoding apparatus comprising:

a scalable media receiver configured to receive scalable media;

a protection profile data receiver configured to receive protection profile data; and

a renderer coupled to said scalable media receiver and said protection profile data receiver, wherein said renderer is adapted to generate media data that is rendered based, at least in part, on said scalable media and said protection profile data.

62. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 61, wherein said media data decoding apparatus is a legacy decoder.

63. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 61, wherein said protection profile data is encrypted.

64. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 61, wherein said protection profile data is unencrypted.

65. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 61 wherein two or more of said scalable media and said protection profile data are received together in a single file.

66. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 65, wherein said protection profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said protection profile data is at the beginning of said file.

67. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 65, wherein said protection profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said protection profile data is not at the beginning of said file.

68. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 61, wherein said scalable media decoding apparatus is an apparatus selected from the group consisting of a portable communications device, a stationary computing device, or a digital image capturing device.

69. A media data decoding apparatus comprising:

a scalable media receiver configured to receive scalable media;

a protection profile data receiver configured to receive protection profile data;

a scalable profile data receiver configured to receive scalable profile data; and

a renderer coupled to said scalable media receiver, said scalable profile data receiver and said protection profile data receiver, wherein said renderer is adapted to that generate media data that is rendered based, at least in part, on said scalable media, said scalable profile data, and said protection profile data.

70. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 69, wherein said media data decoding apparatus is a legacy decoder.

71. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 69, wherein said scalable profile data is encrypted.

72. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 69, wherein said scalable profile data is unencrypted.

73. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 69, wherein two or more of said scalable media, said scalable profile data, and said protection profile data are received together in a single file.

74. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 73, wherein said scalable profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said scalable profile data is at the beginning of said file.

75. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 73, wherein said scalable profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said scalable profile data is not at the beginning of said file.

76. The media data decoding apparatus of claim 73, wherein said protection profile data and said scalable media are in said single file and said protection profile data is at the beginning of said file.
