Process and an apparatus for chip-cutting plastic material optical lenses
First Claim
1. A process for working plastic material optical lenses, in which chips are cut from said lenses at a predetermined point on said lens, wherein said chip-cutting is effected by means of lathing, and cooling down only said point of chip-cutting to a temperature at which said plastic material becomes brittle such that said chips break into bits.

Abstract
The invention concerns a process and an apparatus for chip-cutting plastic material optical lenses. The point of chip-cutting on the lens is cooled. The chip-cutting is effected by means of lathing. The point of chip-cutting is locally cooled down to a temperature at which the plastic material becomes brittle such that the chip breaks into bits.

- 7. An apparatus for working plastic material optical lenses, comprising lathing means for cutting chips from said lenses at a predetermined point on said lens, and means for cooling said point of chip-cutting down to a temperature at which said plastic material becomes brittle such that said chips break into bits, said cooling means comprising a nozzle directed locally onto said point of chip-cutting and being connected to a supply unit for supplying a cooling medium thereto.
