1. A method for maintaining a list of one or more items of information to be considered in the processing of an incoming electronic message, comprising the steps of:
- determining whether an incoming electronic message meets one or more predetermined criteria associated with one or more aspects and/or elements of the message and with a plurality of items of information from one or more lists; and
altering the one or more lists by one or more of modifying, deleting, and adding a plurality of items of information;
wherein the step of altering is based on one or more of a) the result of the step of determining, b) the one or more predetermined criteria, c) one or more items of information from the one or more lists, d) information contained in the incoming electronic message, and e) information associated with the incoming electronic message;
and wherein the plurality of items of information modified, deleted or added has one or more associated expirations, and is related to one or more of a) the identity of the sender of the incoming electronic message and b) at least one of a plurality of recipient addresses associated with the incoming electronic message.

Abstract
A system and method for controlling receipt of electronic messages by considering permission authorization information which may be associated with, or transmitted in or with the electronic messages, is provided. The permission authorization information may also take the form of an alias for recipients'"'"' actual messaging addresses. A user-defined profile may store the permission authorization information, other related information, and associated validation rules to be considered. Permission authorization information, rules, and/or other related information may be considered within a context of other rules and other supporting information, including sender whitelists and blacklists, address books, buddy lists, contact databases, and other data. Permission authorization information, other related information, and rules may be added automatically as messages arrive or may be predetermined by the user, may be modified automatically or by the user, and may be made to expire automatically or by the user.
