Abstract

A system is disclosed for delivering and displaying images on web pages and enabling and implementing various interactive functions with respect to the images, so as to give a user the illusion that objects or scenes depicted in the images are rotating, being zoomed in on, changing color, being measured, or having certain areas of the objects or scenes highlighted with enlargement and/or text, among other things. Various methods of enabling and implementing the interactive functions are described, including enabling the interactive functions using scripts or styles or some combination of the two to influence the manner in which an image is presented to a user on a user'"'"'s display. Styles can also be used to allow a user to carry out one or more interactive functions, such as a rotation and a zoom interactive function, essentially simultaneously from the user'"'"'s perspective, for example, so that a user can perceive an object rotating from right to left and enlarging at the same time.

Claims

1. A method of formatting documents containing images for presentation on a web page, comprising:

assembling a plurality of images into a set of images;

providing the set of images on a web page;

associating the set of images with at least one style with the capacity to influence the presentation of the image on the webpage so as to enable and implement at least one interactive function with respect to the set of images.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising associating the at least one style with at least one command that can be provided by a viewer, the at least one command implementing the at least one interactive function.

The method of claim 1, further comprising associating the at least one style with a first command and a second command that can be provided by a viewer, the first command having the effect of causing an image in the set of images to be hidden from view, and the second command having the effect of causing an image in the set of images to be displayed.

The method of claim 3, wherein the plurality of images are of an object, and each of the plurality of images is captured at a different angle in a particular plane of the object, and the at least one interactive function includes an interactive function whereby each image in the plurality of images is displayed one image at a time, so that viewer has the perception that the object is rotating.

The method of claim 1, wherein the set of images comprises a plurality of images of the same object or scene, wherein each image has a different degree of resolution somewhere in the range of a minimum resolution and a maximum resolution, and the at least one interactive function includes an interactive function whereby the resolution of the image can be varied in a range between the minimum resolution and the maximum resolution.

6. A method of changing the resolution of an image displayed on a web page from the perspective of one viewing the image, comprising:

displaying an image with a first resolution;

associating the image with at least one style with the capacity to influence the presentation of the image; and

displaying the image with a second resolution according to content of the at least one style.

7. A method of formatting documents containing images for presentation on a web page, comprising:

assembling a set of images;

associating the set of images with at least one style with the capacity to influence the presentation of the image on the webpage so as to enable one viewing the images to perceive the illusion of interacting with the images.

8. A system for rendering images interactive from the point of view of a user, the system comprising:

a processor having a storage capability;

at least one set of images comprising at least one image;

a display on which the images in at least one set of images rendered interactive can be viewed and interacted with by a user;

code, including at least one style, executable by the processor for enabling at least one interactive function with respect to the at least one set of images;

code, including at least one style, executable by the processor for displaying to the user the choices the user has with respect to implementing the at least one interactive function;

code executable by the processor for accepting and processing input from the user representing the user'"'"'s choice as to which of the at least one interactive functions the user desires to implement with respect to the at least one set of images; and

code, including at least one style, executable by the processor for carrying out the selected at least one interactive function with respect to the chosen set of images.
