1. A device for amplifying and/or detecting at least one nucleic acid molecule in a sample, comprising:

  • a first well region configured to receive probe molecules and primer molecules, said probe molecules and said primer molecules each configured to hybridize with at least a portion of a target nucleic acid molecule;

    a second well region configured to receive target nucleic acid molecules; and

    a connecting region providing a restricted pathway connecting said first well region and said second well region;

    said restricted pathway comprising an elongated channel configured to direct the flow of a liquid by capillary action and being effective to allow contact between said probe molecules, said primer molecules, and said target nucleic acid molecules so that at least one target nucleic acid molecule may be amplified and/or detected.
