In one embodiment, a foreign body retrieval device that includes a retriever having a hook at one end; and a snare having an element that is configured to substantially surround, and that substantially surrounds, a portion of the hook when the snare and the retriever are used together to capture a foreign body. In another embodiment, a foreign body retrieval device that includes a retriever having a closed-arm hook at one end; and a snare having an element that is configured to engage the closed-arm hook.
