Abstract

A light-emitting diode comprising a substrate having a surface on which connecting electrodes are formed and another surface on which terminal electrodes conducting with the connecting electrodes are provided, and an LED element mounted on the substrate, the LED element having an emission surface on one surface thereof, the emission surface being covered with a translucent resin containing fluorescent material, surfaces other than the emission surface being covered with a resin having a diffusion-reflection effect.

Claims

1. A light-emitting diode, comprising:

a substrate having a surface provided with connecting electrodes and another surface provided with terminal electrodes electrically connected to the connecting electrodes; and

a light-emitting element mounted on the substrate,

the light-emitting element having an emission surface on one surface thereof,

the emission surface being covered with a translucent resin containing fluorescent material, and

surfaces of the light-emitting element other than the emission surface being covered with a resin having a diffusion-reflection effect.

2. The light-emitting element according to claim 1,

wherein light generated from a junction in the light-emitting element is emitted only from the emission surface.

3. The light-emitting diode according to claim 1,

wherein a surface of the light-emitting element opposite to the emission surface is attached to an attaching surface of the substrate,

wherein the attaching surface of the substrate is configured to have a diffusion-reflection effect, and

wherein the light-emitting element is adhered to the attaching surface through a translucent adhesive.

4. The light-emitting diode according to claim 1,

wherein a surface of the light-emitting element opposite to the emission surface is attached to an attaching surface of the substrate,

wherein the attaching surface of the substrate is configured to have a mirror-reflection effect, and

wherein the light-emitting element is adhered to the attaching surface through a translucent adhesive.

5. The light-emitting diode according to claim 3,

wherein the attaching surface having the diffusion-reflection effect is formed from any one of the following selection:

a white-colored resinous substrate, a white-colored ceramic substrate, a roughly surfaced metallic substrate made of aluminum or silver or the like, and a rough plated surface.

6. The light-emitting diode according to claim 4,

wherein the attaching surface having the mirror-reflection effect includes a mirror-plated surface or mirror-processed surface.

7. The light-emitting diode according to claim 1,

wherein the resin having the diffusion-reflection effect comprises any one of a white-colored resin or a resin mixed with a filler such as titanium oxide.

8. The light-emitting diode according to claim 1,

wherein the emission surface of the light-emitting element is surrounded by a frame-like member having a reflecting surface.

9. The light-emitting diode according to claim 1,

wherein an upper surface of the resin containing the fluorescent material is covered with a translucent sealing resin.

10. The light-emitting diode according to claim 1,

wherein the emission surface is parallel to a junction in the light emitting element.
