administering an effective amount of a medicament characterized as a NMDA-receptor antagonist or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein the step of administering an effective amount of a medicament includes the step of administering an effective amount of 1-amino-3,5-dimethyladamantane hydrochloride and pharmaceutically acceptable derivatives thereof, and wherein the step of administering an effective amount of medicament includes the step of administering the medicament in a concentration ranging from approximately 5 mg to approximately 20 mg per day.
