Abstract
Methods, systems, and apparatuses for down-converting and up-converting an electromagnetic signal. In embodiments, the invention operates by receiving an electromagnetic signal and recursively operating on approximate half cycles of a carrier signal. The recursive operations can be performed at a sub-harmonic rate of the carrier signal. The invention accumulates the results of the recursive operations and uses the accumulated results to form a down-converted signal. In embodiments, up-conversion is accomplished by controlling a switch with an oscillating signal, the frequency of the oscillating signal being selected as a sub-harmonic of the desired output frequency. When the invention is being used in the frequency modulation or phase modulation implementations, the oscillating signal is modulated by an information signal before it causes the switch to gate a bias signal. The output of the switch is filtered, and the desired harmonic is output.

70. An apparatus for up-converting an electromagnetic signal, comprising:

a first and second amplifier each having a first, second and third port; and

95. A method for up-converting an information signal, comprising:

amplifying a non-inverted information signal;
amplifying an inverted information signal;
receiving the amplified non-inverted information signal at a first port of a first switching device and at a first port of a second switching device;
receiving the amplified inverted information signal at a first port of a third switching device and at a first port of a fourth switching device;
gating the first and third switching devices according to a first control signal; and
gating the second and fourth switching devices according to a first control signal;

102. A transmitter, comprising:

a first amplifier that receives a non-inverted information signal and outputs an amplified non-inverted information signal;
a second amplifier that receives an inverted information signal and outputs an amplified inverted information signal;
first and second switching devices that each receive said amplified non-inverted information signal at a first port; and
third and fourth switching devices that each receive said amplified inverted information signal at a first port;
wherein a second port of each of the first and fourth switching devices is electrically coupled to a first node;
wherein a second port of each of the second and third switching devices is electrically coupled to a second node;
wherein a first control signal is applied to a third port of each of the first and third switching devices;
wherein a second control signal is applied to a third port of each of the second and fourth switching devices; and
