Abstract

A securing system and method including an article holder portion having at least two separable portions; a mount portion adapted for carrying at least one of the separable portions of the holder portion; and optionally at least one sensor for monitoring the article and providing an output signal indicative of article tampering.

Claims

1. An article securing device comprising:

a mount portion adapted to be attached to a support structure; and

a removable holder portion separable from the mount portion and adapted to be securingly engaged to the mount portion for assisting in holding an article, at least one of the removable holder portion or mount portion carrying an actuator for causing the securing engagement.

2. The securing device of claim 1, wherein the removable holder portion securingly engages the mount portion by way of a lockable mating engagement.

3. The securing device of claim 2, wherein the lockable engagement is by way of a keyed lock, a combination lock, an electronically controlled lock, an actuatable member or a combination thereof.

4. The device according claim 1, wherein the holder portion, the mount portion or both includes at least one sensor for detecting separation of the holder portion from the mount portion.

5. The securing device of claim 4, wherein at least one sensor is in signaling communication with a monitored securing system.

The securing device of claim 1, wherein the holder portion or the mount portion includes a projection that is adapted for insertion into an aperture in the other of the holder portion or the mount portion and includes a surface configuration on the projection for engagement with an opposing surface of a wall defining the aperture.

7. The securing device of claim 6, wherein the projection includes a rotatable member partially enclosed in a sleeve and having teeth as the surface configuration.

8. The securing device of claim 1, wherein at least one of the mount portions or the holder portions are adapted for carrying a trigger operated device.

9. The securing device of claim 1, wherein the mount portion includes at least one removable member adapted for receiving the removable holder portion.

10. A gun securing device, comprising:

a removable holder for carrying a gun, the removable holder including a first component and second component that are adapted to matingly engage each other and block depression of a trigger;

a mount portion adapted to be fixedly attached to a support structure and securingly engage the removable holder; and

an actuator mounted to the removable holder or mount portion for releasably engaging the other of the removable holder or mount portion, wherein upon engagement the gun becomes releasably attached to the mount portion.

11. The device of claim 10, wherein the removable holder, the mount portion or both includes at least one sensor for detecting separation of the removable holder and mount portion.

12. The securing device of claim 11, wherein at least one sensor is in signaling communication with a monitored securing system.

13. The device of claim 10, wherein the mount portion further includes a cover for concealing components of the gun securing device.

14. The device of claim 10, wherein the actuator comprises a keyed lock, a combination lock, an electronically controlled lock or a combination thereof.

15. The device of claim 10, wherein the mount portion forms an opening for receiving at least a portion of the removable holder.

16. The device of claim 10, wherein the removable holder further includes an opening for receiving a portion of the actuator.

17. A gun securing device, comprising:

a mount portion including a first portion adapted for carrying a first lock and mounting to a surface, and a second portion for covering at least a portion of the first portion and for providing access to the first lock;

a removable holder portion adapted for carrying a gun and blocking depression of a trigger of the gun, the holder portion adapted for engaging the first lock and for permitting the holder portion to be detached from the mount portion, for allowing removal of the gun from the holder portion while at least part of the holder portion remains engaged with the mount portion, or both.

18. The device of claim 17, wherein the lock comprises a keyed lock, a combination lock, a deadbolt lock, an electronically controlled lock, an actuatable member or a combination thereof.

19. The device of claim 17, wherein the second portion defines a first opening for receiving a portion of the first lock.

20. The device of claim 19, wherein the second portion defines a second opening for receiving a portion of the removable holder portion.

21. The device of claim 20, wherein the second portion includes walls surrounding the second opening formed in the mount portion for guiding the removable holder to a region adjacent to the first lock.

22. The device of claim 17, wherein the removable holder, the mount portion or both includes at least one sensor for detecting separation of the removable holder and mount portion.

23. The device of claim 17, wherein the removable holder includes an engaging feature for engaging with the first lock.

24. The device of claim 17, wherein the second portion includes a first opening for receiving at least a portion of the first lock, and a second opening for receiving at least a portion of the removable holder, and wherein the first lock comprises a keyed lock having a key opening accessible through the first opening and includes a retractable tongue for engaging a recess portion of the removable holder when the removable holder is inserted into the second opening, and further including a sensor located on the mount portion, removable holder or both for detecting separation of at least part of the removable holder and the mount portion.
