Abstract

A system and method for reverse mounted light array. In one method embodiment, the present invention couples a reverse mounted light-generating source with a substrate. Additionally, the present invention couples an electrical portion of the reverse mounted light generating source with a conductive trace coupled to the reverse side of the substrate, wherein the coupling of the conductive trace with the substrate and the reverse mounted light generating source forms a reverse mounted light array.

Claims

1. A reverse mounted light array comprising:

a substrate;

a conductive trace coupled with the reverse side of said substrate, said conductive trace adapted to connect to an electrical power source; and

at least one light-generating source reversely coupled with said substrate and coupled with said conductive trace forming a reverse mounted light array.

2. The reverse mounted light array as recited in claim 1 wherein said light generating source is selected from the group comprising of light emitting diodes, laser diodes, organic light emitting diodes, or combinations thereof.

3. The reverse mounted light array as recited in claim 1 wherein the light-generating source comprises:

an LED;

a reflector cup for reflecting light; and

an optically designed dome shape to direct the light emitted from the light-generating source.

4. The reverse mounted light array as recited in claim 1 further comprising:

a heat sink coupled with said light generating source.

5. The reverse mounted light array as recited in claim 1 wherein the light-generating source is a packaged LED comprising:

an LED;

a reflective cup;

a heat sink attached to said reflective cup; and

an optically designed dome covering a top portion of said packaged LED.

6. The reverse mounted light array as recited in claim 1 wherein the substrate comprises:

an electrically non-conductive but thermally conductive flexible material.

7. The reverse mounted light array as recited in claim 3 wherein said reverse mounted comprises:

coupling a light projecting portion of said light generating source in an opening in said substrate; and

coupling said electrical portion of said light generating source with the conductive trace coupled to the reverse side of said substrate.

8. The reverse mounted light array as recited in claim 1 wherein the reverse mounted light array is a phototherapy device.

9. A method for a reverse mounted light array comprising:

coupling a reverse mounted light generating source with a substrate; and

coupling an electrical portion of the reverse mounted light generating source with a conductive trace coupled to the reverse side of the substrate, wherein the coupling of the conductive trace with the substrate and the reverse mounted light generating source forms a reverse mounted light array.

10. The method as recited in claim 9 wherein said light generating source is selected from the group comprising of light emitting diodes, laser diodes, organic light emitting diodes, or combinations thereof.

11. The method as recited in claim 9 wherein the light-generating source comprises:

at least one LED;

a reflector cup for reflecting light;

an optically designed dome shape to direct the light emitted from the light-generating source; and

a heat sink coupled with said light generating source.

12. The method as recited in claim 9 wherein the substrate is a flexible circuit made of polyimide material.

13. The method as recited in claim 9 wherein the light-generating source is a packaged LED comprising:

at least one LED;

a reflector cup;

a heat sink attached to said reflector cup; and

an optically designed dome covering a top portion of said packaged LED.

14. The method as recited in claim 9 wherein the substrate comprises:

an electrically non-conductive but thermally conductive flexible material.

15. A reverse mounted light array comprising:

an electrically non-conductive flexible substrate;

a conductive trace coupled with the reverse side of said substrate, said conductive trace adapted to connect to an electrical power source; and

at least one light-generating source reversely coupled with said substrate and coupled with said conductive trace forming a reverse mounted light array.

16. The reverse mounted light array as recited in claim 15 wherein said light generating source is selected from the group comprising of light emitting diodes, laser diodes, organic light emitting diodes, or combinations thereof.

17. The reverse mounted light array as recited in claim 15 wherein the light-generating source comprises:

at least one LED;

a reflector cup for reflecting light;

an optically designed dome shape to direct the light emitted from the light-generating source; and

a heat sink coupled with said light generating source.

18. The reverse mounted light array as recited in claim 15 wherein the substrate is a flexible circuit made of polyimide material.

19. The reverse mounted light array as recited in claim 15 wherein the light-generating source is a packaged LED comprising:

at least one LED;

a reflective cup;

a heat sink attached to said reflective cup; and

an optically designed dome covering a top portion of said packaged LED.

20. The reverse mounted light array as recited in claim 15 wherein said reverse mounted comprises:

coupling a light projecting portion of said light generating source in an opening in said substrate; and

coupling said electrical portion of said light generating source with the conductive trace coupled to the reverse side of said substrate.
