Abstract

A telecommunications system and constituent two-wire interface module. The two-wire interface module includes a first two-wire interface component configured to receive a first two-wire interface communication following a first two-wire interface protocol, and a second two-wire interface component configured to generate a second two-wire interface communication following a second two-wire interface protocol. The first and second two-wire interface communications each include a header portion and a payload portion. The second two-wire interface component is further configured to use one or more of the data fields from the payload portion of the first two-wire interface communication in the header portion of the second two-wire interface communication.

Claims

1. A two-wire interface module comprising the following:

a first two-wire interface component configured to receive a first two-wire interface communication following a first two-wire interface protocol, the first two-wire interface communication including a header portion and a payload portion, the payload portion including a plurality of data fields;

a second two-wire interface component configured to generate a second two-wire interface communication following a second two-wire interface protocol, the second two-wire interface communication including a header portion and a payload portion, wherein the second two-wire interface component is further configured to use one or more of the plurality of data fields from the payload portion of the first two-wire interface communication in the header portion of the second two-wire interface communication.

2. A two-wire interface module in accordance with claim 1, further comprising the following:

a logic component configured to provide the one or more of the plurality of data fields from the first two-wire interface component to the second two-wire interface component.

3. A two-wire interface module in accordance with claim 1, wherein the first two-wire interface protocol comprises the I²C two-wire interface.

4. A two-wire interface module in accordance with claim 3, wherein the second two-wire interface protocol comprises the FSB two-wire interface.

5. A two-wire interface module in accordance with claim 4, wherein the second two-wire interface protocol comprises the FSB two-wire interface.

6. A two-wire interface module in accordance with claim 1, wherein the one or more of the plurality of data fields comprises a frame start field.

7. A two-wire interface module in accordance with claim 1, wherein the one or more of the plurality of data fields comprises an operation field.

8. A two-wire interface module in accordance with claim 1, wherein the one or more of the plurality of data fields comprises a device identifier field.

9. A two-wire interface module in accordance with claim 1, wherein the one or more of the plurality of data fields comprises an address field.

10. A two-wire interface module in accordance with claim 1, wherein the one or more of the plurality of data fields comprises security information that improves reliability of the second two-wire interface communication.

11. A two-wire interface module in accordance with claim 10, wherein the one or more of the plurality of data fields comprises an Cyclic Redundancy Checking (CRC) field.

12. A two-wire interface module in accordance with claim 1, wherein the one or more of the plurality of data fields comprises a frame end field.

13. A telecommunications system comprising a two-wire interface module, the two-wire interface module comprising the following:

a first two-wire interface component configured to receive a first two-wire interface communication following a first two-wire interface protocol, the first two-wire interface communication including a header portion and a payload portion, the payload portion including a plurality of data fields;

a second two-wire interface component configured to generate a second two-wire interface communication following a second two-wire interface protocol, the second two-wire interface communication including a header portion and a payload portion, wherein the second two-wire interface component is further configured to use one or more of the plurality of data fields from the payload portion of the first two-wire interface communication in the header portion of the second two-wire interface communication.

14. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the two-wire interface module is a first two-wire interface module, the telecommunications system further comprising the following:

a second two-wire interface module configured to provide the first two-wire interface communication to the first two-wire interface module.

15. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 14, wherein the second two-wire interface module is an external memory.

16. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 15, further comprising the following:

a third two-wire interface module configured to receive the second two-wire interface communication.

17. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 14, further comprising the following:

a third two-wire interface module configured to receive the second two-wire interface communication.

18. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 13, further comprising the following:

a second two-wire interface module configured to receive the second two-wire interface communication.

19. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the first two-wire interface protocol comprises the I²C two-wire interface.

20. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 19, wherein the second two-wire interface protocol comprises the FSB two-wire interface.

21. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the second two-wire interface protocol comprises the FSB two-wire interface.

22. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the telecommunications system is a 1 G laser transceiver.

23. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the telecommunications system is a 2.5 G laser transceiver.

24. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the telecommunications system is a 4 G laser transceiver.

25. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the telecommunications system is a 10 G laser transceiver.

26. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the telecommunications system is a laser transceiver suitable for fiber channels greater than 10 G.

27. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the telecommunications system is an XFP laser transceiver.

28. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the telecommunications system is an SFP laser transceiver.

29. A telecommunications system in accordance with claim 13, wherein the telecommunications system is an SFF laser transceiver.
