Abstract

In one embodiment, a system for measuring subjective user reaction concerning a particular web page comprising an embedded document includes a first icon viewable on the particular web page independent of input from a user subsequent to the user accessing the particular web page. The particular web page includes a document embedded in the particular web page. The first icon solicits a subjective user reaction to the particular web page comprising the document embedded in the particular web page from the user independent of input from the user subsequent to the user accessing the particular web page. The first icon receives user input indicating a desire to provide a subjective user reaction to the particular web page including the document embedded in the particular web page. The user input causes a second icon to become viewable on the particular web page. The second icon provides the user an opportunity to provide a subjective user reaction to the particular web page including the document embedded in the particular web page. The system also includes software associated with the second icon that receives the subjective user reaction to the particular web page including the document embedded in the particular web page for reporting to an owner of the document embedded in the particular web page.

Claims

1. A system for measuring subjective user reaction concerning a particular web page comprising an embedded document, the system comprising:

a first icon viewable on the particular web page independent of input from a user subsequent to the user accessing the particular web page, the particular web page comprising a document embedded in the particular web page, the first icon soliciting a subjective user reaction to the particular web page comprising the document embedded in the particular web page from the user independent of input from the user subsequent to the user accessing the particular web page, the first icon operable to receive user input indicating a desire to provide a subjective user reaction to the particular web page comprising the document embedded in the particular web page, the user input causing a second icon to become viewable on the particular web page, the second icon providing the user an opportunity to provide a subjective user reaction to the particular web page comprising the document embedded in the particular web page; and

software associated with the second icon and operable to receive the subjective user reaction to the particular web page comprising the document embedded in the particular web page for reporting to an owner of the document embedded in the particular web page.

2. The system of claim 1, where the software is further operable to collect information on the user viewing the document embedded in the particular web page for reporting to the owner of the document embedded in the particular web page.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein information on the user viewing the document embedded in the particular web page uniquely identifies the document embedded in the particular web page.

4. The system of claim 2, wherein information on the user viewing the document embedded in the particular web page identifies a page or a frame of the document embedded in the particular web page that was being viewed when the user input was received.

5. The system of claim 2, wherein information on the user viewing the document embedded in the particular web page indicates a time the user spent viewing each of one or more pages of the document embedded in the particular web page.

6. The system of claim 2, wherein information on the user viewing the document embedded in the particular web page indicates a time the user spent viewing the document embedded in the particular web page.

7. The system of claim 2, wherein information on the user viewing the document embedded in the particular web page identifies text in the document embedded in the particular web page that the user selected or highlighted.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the document comprises one or more MICROSOFT OFFICE documents.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the document comprises streaming or nonstreaming video.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the document comprises streaming or nonstreaming audio.

11. The system of claim 1, wherein the document comprises one or more PDF documents.

12. The system of claim 1, wherein the document embedded in the particular web page comprises software enabling the user to access the document embedded in the particular web page.

13. A method for measuring subjective user reaction concerning a particular web page comprising an embedded document, the method comprising:

using a first icon viewable on the particular web page independent of input from a user subsequent to the user accessing the particular web page, the particular web page comprising a document embedded in the particular web page, the first icon soliciting a subjective user reaction to the particular web page comprising the document embedded in the particular web page from the user independent of input from the user subsequent to the user accessing the particular web page, the first icon operable to receive user input indicating a desire to provide a subjective user reaction to the particular web page comprising the document embedded in the particular web page, the user input causing a second icon to become viewable on the particular web page, the second icon providing the user an opportunity to provide a subjective user reaction to the particular web page comprising the document embedded in the particular web page; and

using software associated with the second icon to receive the subjective user reaction to the particular web page comprising the document embedded in the particular web page for reporting to an owner of the document embedded in the particular web page.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising using the software to collect information on the user viewing the document embedded in the particular web page for reporting to the owner of the document embedded in the particular web page.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein information on the user viewing the document embedded in the particular web page uniquely identifies the document embedded in the particular web page.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein information on the user viewing the document embedded in the particular web page identifies a page or a frame of the document embedded in the particular web page that was being viewed when the user input was received.

17. The method of claim 14, wherein information on the user viewing the document embedded in the particular web page indicates a time the user spent viewing each of one or more pages of the document embedded in the particular web page.

18. The method of claim 14, wherein information on the user viewing the document embedded in the particular web page indicates a time the user spent viewing the document embedded in the particular web page.

19. The method of claim 14, wherein information on the user viewing the document embedded in the particular web page identifies text in the document embedded in the particular web page that the user selected or highlighted.

20. The method of claim 13, wherein the document comprises one or more MICROSOFT OFFICE documents.

21. The method of claim 13, wherein the document comprises streaming or nonstreaming video.

22. The method of claim 13, wherein the document comprises streaming or nonstreaming audio.

23. The method of claim 13, wherein the document comprises one or more PDF documents.

24. The method of claim 13, wherein the document embedded in the particular web page comprises software enabling the user to access the document embedded in the particular web page.
