Abstract

A method, apparatus, and system are provided for a Message-Oriented Middleware (MOM) provider having multiple logical MOM server instances. In an embodiment, a number of application servers are communicatively coupled on an enterprise network. In an embodiment, the MOM provider includes an MOM server instance implemented on each of the plurality of application servers. Each MOM server instance may include a session container to manage one or more sessions and a destination container to provide one or more destinations. In an embodiment, each destination is identified by a globally unique identifier.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

a first application server coupled with a network;

a second application server coupled with the network;

a Message-Oriented Middleware (MOM) provider coupled with the network to provide a message service for the first application server and the second application server, the MOM provider having a first logical MOM server instance on the first application server and a second logical MOM server instance on the second application server.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein

the first logical MOM server instance is defined by a first configuration entity;

and

the second logical MOM server instance is defined by a second configuration entity.

3. The system of claim 2, wherein

the first logical MOM server instance includes a first queue for an application;

and

the second logical MOM server instance includes a second queue for the application.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the first queue is configured to be one of:

a global queue;

a local queue; and

a store-and-forward queue.

5. The system of claim 2, wherein the first logical MOM server instance comprises:

a session container to manage one or more message sessions; and

a destination container to provide one or more message destinations.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the second logical MOM server instance comprises:

a session container to manage one or more message sessions; and

a destination container to provide one or more message destinations.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the MOM provider is a Java message service based MOM provider.

8. A system comprising:

a first application server coupled with a network;

a second application server coupled with the network; and

a Message-Oriented Middleware (MOM) provider coupled with the network to provide a message service for the first application server and the second application server, the MOM provider having a first logical MOM server instance to provide a message service for a first application and a second logical MOM server instance to provide a message service for a second application.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the first logical MOM server instance comprises:

a first destination container having a first queue of the first application, the first destination container on the first application server; and

a second destination container having a second queue of the first application, the second destination container on the second application server.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the second logical MOM server instance comprises:

a destination container having one or more queues of the second application, the destination container on the second application server.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the MOM provider is a Java message service based MOM provider.

12. A system comprising:

a plurality of application servers communicatively coupled to serve applications over an enterprise network to a plurality of clients; and

a Message-Oriented Middleware (MOM) provider to provide a message service for the plurality of application servers, the MOM provider including a logical MOM server instance implemented on each of the plurality of application servers.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein each logical MOM server instance includes a session container to manage one or more message sessions.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the session container comprises:

an inbound bus having one or more logical handlers to process an incoming message; and

an outbound bus to pass an outgoing message to a dispatcher for distribution to an MOM client.

15. The system of claim 13, wherein each logical MOM server instance further includes a destination container having one or more destinations, each destination having a globally unique identifier.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein

each logical MOM server instance is identified by an MOM server instance identifier,

each destination is identified by a destination identifier, and

the globally unique identifier is a combination of the MOM server instance identifier and the destination identifier.

17. The system of claim 15, wherein each logical MOM server instance further includes a logical router to distribute a message from the session container to the destination container.

18. The system of claim 12, wherein each of the logical MOM server instances share a common network layer.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein the MOM provider is a Java message service based MOM provider.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein at least one of the plurality of application servers is a Java 2, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) based application server.

21. A method employed within a network comprising:

receiving a message at a session container of a logical Message-Oriented Middleware (MOM) server instance, the received message to be delivered to an MOM destination;

selecting one of a plurality of destinations containers, the selected destination container including the MOM destination; and

sending the received message to the selected destination container.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein receiving the message at the session container comprises:

receiving the message at the session container, the session container on a first application server.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein sending the received message to the selected destination container comprises:

sending the received message to the selected destination container, the selected destination container on a second application server.

24. The method of claim 22, wherein sending the received message to the selected destination container comprises:

sending the received message to the selected destination container, the selected destination container on the first application server.

25. The method of 21, wherein the MOM server instance is a Java message service based server instance.

26. A system comprising:

means for receiving a message at a session container of a logical Message-Oriented Middleware (MOM) server instance, the received message to be delivered to an MOM destination;

means for selecting one of a plurality of destinations containers, the selected destination container including the MOM destination; and

means for sending the received message to the selected destination container.

27. The system of claim 26, wherein the means for receiving the message at the session container comprises:

means for receiving the message at the session container, the session container on a first application server.

28. The system of claim 27, wherein the means for sending the received message to the selected destination container comprises:

means for sending the received message to the selected destination container, the selected destination container on a second application server.

29. The system of claim 27, wherein the means for sending the received message to the selected destination container comprises:

means for sending the received message to the selected destination container, the selected destination container on the first application server.

30. An article of manufacture comprising:

an electronically accessible medium providing instructions that, when executed by an apparatus, cause the apparatus to receive a message at a session container of a logical Message-Oriented Middleware (MOM) server instance, the received message to be delivered to an MOM destination;

select one of a plurality of destinations containers, the selected destination container including the MOM destination; and

send the received message to the selected destination container.

31. The article of manufacture of claim 30, wherein the instructions that, when executed by the apparatus, cause the apparatus to receive the message at the session container cause the apparatus to

receive the message at the session container, wherein the session container is on a first application server.

32. The article of manufacture of claim 31, wherein the instructions that, when executed by the apparatus, cause the apparatus to send the received message to the selected destination container cause the apparatus to

send the received message to the selected destination container, the selected destination container on a second application server.

33. The article of manufacture of claim 31, wherein the instructions that, when executed by the apparatus, cause the apparatus to send the received message to the selected destination container cause the apparatus to

send the received message to the selected destination container, the selected destination container on the first application server.
