- a) providing a microelectronics assembly, including an RFID integrated circuit, an antenna, and one or more interconnections operatively connecting said circuit and said antenna;
b) positioning said microelectronics assembly on said medical implant; and
c) securing said microelectronics assembly thereon onto said medical implant.

Abstract
The present invention is generally directed a method of making an interactive medical implant device including a radio frequency identification tag mounted to said implant covered with a liquid impermeable seal. Identification of the RFID tag with a relevant instrument or patient database allows the physician access to pertinent information regarding the medical implant device.

1. A method of making an interactive information medical implant, comprising the steps of:

a) providing a microelectronics assembly, including an RFID integrated circuit, an antenna, and one or more interconnections operatively connecting said circuit and said antenna;
b) positioning said microelectronics assembly on said medical implant; and

13. A method for identification of implanted medical devices and management of medical information comprising the steps of:
- a) labeling said implantable medical device with a radiofrequency identification tag (RFID) having an identification code specific to that specific implant, b) maintaining a medical product and patient information database including patient name, address, medical history, and treating physician, c) maintaining a medical implant database device history including manufacturer, type of implant, composition of implant, dimensions and measurements of implant, date of implantation, expiration date if applicable, type of instruments required for removal of implant; and
d) reading said identification code of said medical implant device and matching said identification code with the database of step b). and/or the database of step c).

16. A method of making an interactive information medical implant, comprising the steps of:

a) providing a microelectronics assembly, including an RFID integrated circuit, an antenna, and one or more interconnections operatively connecting said circuit and said antenna;
b) positioning said microelectronics assembly on said medical implant;
c) inserting said medical implant into a patient; and
d) reading the global positioning of the device with the use of navigational systems.

A sterile medical implant comprising a housing, an RFID tag including an integrated circuit and an antenna connected to said circuit mounted to a substrate, and a biocompatible cover placed over said RFID tag and secured to said cover which is impermeable to liquid precluding liquid from engaging said RFID tag.
