1. Liquid infusion apparatus for operation in an MRI environment, the apparatus comprising:

  • a linear peristaltic pumping structure constructed of non-magnetic material disposed within an electrically conductive structure to receive a liquid conduit linearly oriented therein to transfer liquid through the pumping structure and liquid conduit from a liquid source in response to selected mechanical movements;

    an ultrasonic actuator constructed of non-magnetic material disposed within an electrically conductive structure and coupled to provide mechanical movement to the pumping structure in response to applied multiphasic electrical signals;

    a first sensor disposed to produce a first output signal indicative of mechanical movements of the pumping structure;

    a second sensor disposed to produce a second output signal indicative of liquid flow through the pumping structure; and

    a controller including a central processing unit and memory for storing operating programs disposed within an electrically conductive structure and constructed of non-magnetic material for operation in an MRI environment, the controller communicating with the first and second sensors for receiving the first and second output signals therefrom, and with the ultrasonic actuator for selectively energizing the actuator to transfer liquid through the pumping structure at a controllable volumetric rate.
