20. A cochlear implant electrode assembly comprising:
-
a pre-curved elongate flexible carrier adaptable to be inserted into the scala tympani of a human cochlea;
a multiplicity of electrode contacts exposed on a surface of the flexible carrier;
a lumen extending through the carrier member for at least a portion of the length thereof; and
a stiffening element positionable within the lumen and adapted to bias the carrier member into at least a substantially straight configuration prior to and during insertion of the carrier member into the cochlea;
wherein, following removal of the stiffening member from said lumen, said lumen is adapted to act as a drug delivery channel.
