Abstract

A technique for supplying a data object to a user of a communication system includes: (a) creating a data object intended for rendering at a first communication device (e.g., a subscriber'"'"'s communication device), the rendering to take place upon the occurrence of a triggering communication event, the data object providing information pertaining to a user of a second communication device (e.g., a “holder'"'"'s communication device); (b) storing the data object in a data server; (c) transferring, in a first transferring step, the data object from the data server to the second communication device (e.g., the holder'"'"'s communication device); (d) transferring, in a second transferring step, the data object from the second communication device to the first communication device (e.g., the subscriber'"'"'s communication device); (e) determining whether the triggering communication event has occurred; and (f) rendering the data object at the first communication device (e.g., the subscriber'"'"'s communication device) upon the occurrence of the communication event. In another embodiment, the data server may transfer the data object directly to the first communication device. A physical implementation of the above technique is also described.

44. A method for providing data objects to be rendered at communication devices, comprising:

a data object holder creating a set of data objects for rendering at recipient mobile devices;

storing the set of data objects at a data server;

first transferring the set of data objects from the data server to the holder'"'"'s mobile communication device;

storing the transferred set of data objects in the holder'"'"'s mobile communication device;

second transferring the data objects from the holder'"'"'s mobile communication device to a recipient'"'"'s mobile communication device;

wherein the data objects are adapted to be rendered by the recipient'"'"'s mobile communication device upon determining that a call trigger event has occurred in connection with a communication between the holder'"'"'s mobile device and the recipient'"'"'s mobile device.

45. The method of claim 44, wherein the second transferred data objects comprise a master set of data objects for a specific recipient.

46. The method of claim 44, wherein the second transferred data objects are transferred to the receipient'"'"'s mobile device in response to a communication session between the holder'"'"'s mobile device and the recipient'"'"'s mobile device.

47. The method of claim 44, wherein the second transferred data objects are transferred to the recipient'"'"'s mobile device in response to a manual command initiated by the holder to cause the second transferring.

48. The method of claim 44, wherein the second transferred data objects are formatted according to the rendering capabilities of the recipient'"'"'s mobile device prior to transferring said data objects to the recipient'"'"'s mobile device.

49. The method of claim 44, wherein the second transferred data objects are encrypted at least in part prior to the second transferring of said data objects.

50. The method of claim 49, further comprising:

the recipient'"'"'s mobile device decrypting at least a portion of said second transferred data objects.

51. The method of claim 44, wherein the holder creates multiple sets of data objects, each set corresponding to a specific recipient.

52. The method of claim 51, wherein the multiple sets of data objects are recipient-specific by having information specific to the recipient.

53. The method of claim 44, wherein the data objects are associated with specific call events such that the data objects are call event-specific.

54. The method of claim 44, wherein the data server stores multiple sets of data objects, the sets being holder-specific by having information specific to the holder.

55. The method of claim 44, wherein the data objects have associated event trigger indicia that indicate the call trigger events for which the data objects should be rendered.

56. The method of claim 44, wherein phonepages displayed at a recipient'"'"'s mobile device include standard data and variable data, and wherein the data objects transferred in at least one of the first and second transferring steps comprise variable data without standard data.

57. The method of claim 44, wherein the data object holder creates the set of data objects by completing templates available at said data server.

58. A method for providing data objects to be rendered at communication devices, comprising:

a data object holder creating a set of data objects for rendering at recipient mobile devices;

storing the set of data objects at a data server;

transferring the data objects from the data server to a recipient'"'"'s mobile communication device;

wherein the data objects are adapted to be rendered by the recipient'"'"'s mobile communication device upon determining that a call trigger event has occurred in connection with a communication between the holder'"'"'s mobile device and the recipient'"'"'s mobile device.

59. The method of claim 58, wherein the transferred data objects comprise a master set of data objects for a specific recipient.

60. The method of claim 58, wherein the transferred data objects are transferred to the receipient'"'"'s mobile device in response to a communication session between the holder'"'"'s mobile device and the recipient'"'"'s mobile device.

61. The method of claim 58, wherein the transferred data objects are transferred to the recipient'"'"'s mobile device in response to a manual command initiated by the holder to cause the transferring.

62. The method of claim 58, wherein the transferred data objects are formatted according to the rendering capabilities of the recipient'"'"'s mobile device prior to transferring said data objects to the recipient'"'"'s mobile device.

63. The method of claim 58, wherein the transferred data objects are encrypted at least in part prior to the transferring of said data objects.

64. The method of claim 63, further comprising:

the recipient'"'"'s mobile device decrypting at least a portion of said transferred data objects.

65. The method of claim 58, wherein the holder creates multiple sets of data objects, each set corresponding to a specific recipient.

66. The method of claim 65, wherein the multiple sets of data objects are recipient-specific by having information specific to the recipient.

67. The method of claim 58, wherein the data objects are associated with specific call events such that the data objects are call event-specific.

68. The method of claim 58, wherein the data server stores multiple sets of data objects, the sets being holder-specific by having information specific to the holder.

69. The method of claim 58, wherein the data objects have associated event trigger indicia that indicate the call trigger events for which the data objects should be rendered.

70. The method of claim 58, wherein phonepages displayed at a recipient'"'"'s mobile device include standard data and variable data, and wherein the data objects transferred comprise variable data without standard data.

71. The method of claim 58, wherein the data object holder creates the set of data objects by completing templates available at said data server.

72. A method for providing data objects to be rendered at communication devices, comprising:

a data object server storing a plurality of sets of data objects, each set corresponding to a specific holder;

a recipient mobile device determining the occurrence of a communication trigger event in connection with a communication involving the recipient'"'"'s mobile device and a specific holder'"'"'s mobile device;

submitting a data object request from the recipient'"'"'s mobile device to the data object server based on the determined communication trigger event;

receiving a data object from the data object server in response to said request;

rendering a phonepage based on the received data object.

73. The method of claim 72, wherein the data server adapts the data object according to the recipient'"'"'s mobile device prior to transmission to the recipient'"'"'s mobile device.

74. The method of claim 72, wherein the data object request is at least encrypted in part.

75. The method of claim 74, wherein the received data object is at least encrypted in part.

The method of claim 72, wherein the recipient request includes at least two of (a) a requested protocol for transmission, (b) an indicia of the nature of the communication trigger event, (c) the recipient'"'"'s public or secret identity, (d) the holder'"'"'s public or secret identity, (e) a network address of the recipient, (f) an indicia of the type or capability of the recipient'"'"'s mobile device, and (g) an indicia of an encryption algorithm or key to be employed.

77. The method of claim 72, wherein the received data object comprises a single data object out of a master set of data objects stored at the data object server for a specific holder.

78. The method of claim 72, wherein the received data object is transferred to the recipient'"'"'s mobile device in response to a manual request initiated by the recipient.

79. The method of claim 72, wherein the received data object is transferred to the recipient'"'"'s mobile device in response to a request that is automatically initiated by the recipient'"'"'s mobile device.

80. The method of claim 72, wherein the received data object is formatted according to the rendering capabilities of the recipient'"'"'s mobile device prior to transferring said data object to the recipient'"'"'s mobile device.

81. The method of claim 72, wherein the received data objects is encrypted at least in part prior to transferring said data object to the recipient'"'"'s mobile device.

82. The method of claim 81, further comprising:

the recipient'"'"'s mobile device decrypting at least a portion of said transferred data object.

83. The method of claim 72, wherein the sets of data objects for specific holders include sub-sets corresponding to specific recipients.

84. The method of claim 83, wherein the sub-sets of data objects are recipient-specific by having information specific to specific recipients.

85. The method of claim 72, wherein the data objects are associated with specific communication trigger events such that the data objects are call event-specific.

86. The method of claim 72, wherein the data server stores multiple sets of data objects, the sets being holder-specific by having information specific to the holder.

87. The method of claim 72, wherein the data objects have associated event trigger indicia that indicate the communication trigger events for which the data objects should be rendered.

88. The method of claim 72, wherein phonepages displayed at a recipient'"'"'s mobile device include standard data and variable data, and wherein the data objects transferred comprise variable data without standard data.
