Abstract

A system and method are provided for managing financial market information. According to certain embodiments, the system includes a computer having a memory, processor, and display. The processor is capable of generating a graphical depiction of the financial market information on the display. The graphical depiction includes a multidimensional representation of a broad range of market information for at least two financial instruments. The graphical depiction resides in a single window on the display.

Claims

1. A system for displaying financial market information, the system comprising:

a computer comprising;

a memory to receive and store financial market information;

a display; and

a processor operable to process the financial market information and to execute software to generate a graphical depiction of the financial market information on the display,

wherein the graphical depiction comprises a multidimensional representation, in at least three dimensions, of market information for at least two financial instruments, wherein the graphical depiction resides in a single window on the display, and wherein at least a portion of the displayed financial market information is dynamically updated in real-time.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the graphical depiction includes a plurality of the multidimensional representations.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the financial instruments each having an associated limit order book, wherein respective limit order books are arranged along a first dimension, and wherein orders associated with any one of the respective limit order books are arranged along a second dimension.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein the financial instruments are U.S. Treasuries.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein the U.S. Treasuries comprise treasuries having at least two different maturities.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the graphical depiction comprises a tick strip.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the graphical depiction comprises an active market stack.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the graphical depiction comprises a limit order book.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the graphical depiction comprises a market trend indicator.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the graphical depiction comprises an indicator of executed trades.

11. The system of claim 1, wherein the graphical depiction comprises a first indication of a first number of trades associated with a financial instrument and a second indication of a second number of trades of the financial instrument, the second number being larger than the first number and corresponding to a longer trading period than the trading period corresponding to the first number.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein the first number is a predetermined number and wherein the second number is determined by the length of a predetermined period of time.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the first number is in the range of from 5 to 15.

14. The system of claim 11, wherein the second indication comprises a representation of intraday trading activity.

15. The system of claim 14, wherein the second indication is provided in the form of a graph.

16. The system of claim 1, wherein the graphical depiction comprises a first portion indicating completed trading activity and a second portion indicating a current active market.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein at least one of the first and second portions depicts a first component of financial market information in a first dimension and a second component of financial market information in a second dimension.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein at least one of the first and second portions depicts market activity for at least two financial instruments in a third dimension.

19. The system of claim 18, wherein both the first and second portions depict market activity for at least two financial instruments, and wherein the financial instruments associated with the first portion correspond to the financial instruments associated with the second portion.

20. The system of claim 17, wherein the second portion depicts quality of orders in the first dimension and volume of orders in the second dimension.

21. The system of claim 1, wherein the market information includes raw data, value-added calculated data, and real-time analytical values.

22. The system of claim 1, wherein additional hidden market information is viewable by scrolling a cursor on a portion of the graphical depiction.

23. The system of claim 22, wherein the additional detail comprises at least one of instrument type information, price information, and volume information associated with orders.

24. The system of claim 22, wherein the additional information comprises, for completed trading activity, at least one of instrument type information, time of day information, price information, and yield information.

25. The system of claim 22, wherein the additional information comprises, for a best-bid/ask order, at least one of instrument type information, price information, yield information, aggregate volume information, and incremental volume information.

26. The system of claim 22, wherein the additional information comprises, for a trade state bid/ask stack, at least one of instrument type information, hit/take information, price information, yield information, volume information, and price trend information.

27. The system of claim 1, further comprising a repository electronically coupled to the computer, the repository storing the financial market information.

28. The system of claim 1, further comprising a transaction application operable to enable a market participant to conduct transactions based on the financial market information.

29. The system of claim 28, wherein the transaction application resides on a computer separate from the computer displaying the financial market information.

30. The system of claim 28, wherein the transaction application is accessible from the computer.

31. The system of claim 28, wherein the transaction application is accessible from the window.

32. The system of claim 31, wherein the transaction application is operable to allow the market participant to execute transactions by interactivity with an object displayed on the window.

33. The system of claim 32, wherein the transaction application is operable to provide a point-and-click environment for executing trades.

34. Software executable by a processor and operable to generate a graphical depiction of financial market information on a display, wherein the graphical depiction comprises a multidimensional representation, in at least three dimensions, of market information for at least two financial instruments, wherein the graphical depiction resides in a single window on the display, and wherein at least a portion of the displayed financial market information is dynamically updated in real-time.

35. The software of claim 34, wherein the graphical depiction includes a plurality of the multidimensional representations.

36. The software of claim 34, wherein the graphical depiction comprises a first portion indicating completed trading activity and a second portion indicating a current active market.

37. The software of claim 36, wherein at least one of the first and second portions depicts a first component of financial market information in a first dimension and a second component of financial market information in a second dimension.

38. The software of claim 37, wherein at least one of the first and second portions depicts market activity for at least two financial instruments in a third dimension.

39. The software of claim 34, further operable to maintain hidden information and make the hidden information viewable on the display in response to activation of a trigger.

40. The software of claim 39, wherein the trigger is the action of scrolling a cursor over a portion of the graphical depiction.

41. The software of claim 34, further operable to receive market information from a repository.

42. The software of claim 34, further operable to enable a user to perform transactions associated with the financial instruments.

43. The software of claim 34, wherein the market information may be viewable in a plurality of orientations.

44. Software executable by a processor and operable to generate a graphical depiction of financial market information on a display, wherein the graphical depiction comprises a three-dimensional representation of market information for at least two financial instruments, the graphical depiction comprising a first component of dynamic, real-time market information in one dimension, a second component of market information in a second dimension, and wherein representations of the at least two financial instruments are arranged along a third dimension.
