Abstract

An automated banking machine (12) is operative to conduct transactions in response to mark up language documents and TCP/IP messages exchanged with a local computer system (14) through an intranet (16), as well as in response to messages exchanged with foreign servers (20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 96) in a wide area network (18). The banking machine includes a computer (34) having mark up language document handling software that includes a browser (76). The machine can receive instructions in mark up language documents accessed at an HTTP address to cause operation of transaction function devices, such as a currency dispenser (42).

Claims

1. At least one article including computer executable instructions operative to cause at least one computer to carry out a method comprising the steps of:

accessing a transaction device operation document through operation of a browser in an automated transaction machine including a currency note dispenser device, the transaction device operation document including at least one transaction device instruction;

operating a transaction device in the machine responsive to processing the transaction device operation document through operation of the browser; and

outputting through an output device of the machine an output responsive to processing the transaction device operation document through operation of the browser.

15. The at least one article according to claim 1 wherein the computer executable instructions are further operative to cause the at least one computer to carry out the step of:

accessing a first document through operation of the browser responsive to processing the transaction device operation document accessed in the accessing step, wherein in the outputting step the output is generated responsive to processing the first document through operation of the browser.

The at least one article according to claim 15 wherein the transaction machine includes a first transaction function device and a second transaction function device, and wherein the transaction device operation document is operative to cause operation of the first transaction function device in the operating step, and wherein the computer executable instructions are further operative to cause the at least one computer to carry out the steps of:

further accessing a further transaction machine operation document through operation of the browser;

further operating the second transaction function device in the machine responsive to accessing the further transaction machine document through operation of the browser;

further accessing a second document through operation of the browser responsive to receipt of the further transaction machine operation document; and

further outputting a further output through the output device of the machine responsive to processing the second document through operation of the browser.

17. The at least one article according to claim 16 wherein the outputting step includes outputting a first promotional message, and wherein in the further outputting step includes outputting a second promotional message.

18. The at least one article according to claim 15 wherein prior to the accessing step, the computer executable instructions are further operative to cause the at least one computer to carry out the steps of:

receiving user data corresponding to a first user through an input device of the automated transaction machine; and

prior to the step of accessing the first document, determining an address of a first document to access responsive to the user data received in the receiving step.

19. The at least one article according to claim 1 wherein the outputting step includes outputting a promotional message.

20. The at least one article according to claim 1 wherein the operating step includes operating the currency note dispenser device to dispense at least one currency note.

21. The at least one article according to claim 1 wherein the outputting step occurs during at least a portion of the operating step.

22. At least one article including computer executable instructions operative to cause at least one computer to carry out a method comprising the steps of:

(a) accessing at least one document through operation of a browser in an automated transaction machine including a sheet dispenser device;

(b) executing a series of transaction steps with the automated transaction machine, wherein between at least two consecutive transaction steps a device in the machine automatically operates in response to an accessed document;

(c) providing an output through an output device of the machine responsive to an accessed document during at least a portion of the device operation.

23. The at least one article according to claim 22 wherein step (b) includes a transaction step including a request to dispense at least one sheet, wherein the sheet dispenser device operates responsive to the request transaction step, and wherein output in step (c) is provided during at least a portion of the time the sheet dispenser device operates.

24. The at least one article according to claim 22 wherein step (c) includes outputting a promotional message.

25. The at least one article according to claim 22 wherein the sheet dispenser device comprises a currency note dispenser device operative to dispense at least one currency note, wherein the output device includes a display device, and wherein step (c) includes providing an output through the display device.

26. The at least one article according to claim 22 wherein the document accessed in step (b) differs from the document accessed in step (c).

27. At least one article including software executable in at least one computer of an automated transaction machine including an output device and a currency dispenser, wherein the at least one computer is in operative connection with the output device and the currency dispenser, wherein the software includes a browser, wherein the software includes computer executable instructions operative to cause the automated transaction machine to carry out a method comprising:

(a) accessing at least one document through operation of the browser;

(b) operating the currency dispenser;

(c) during operation of the currency dispenser, providing an output through the output device responsive to the at least one document accessed in step (a).

28. The at least one article according to claim 27 wherein the at least one document comprises at least one HTML document accessible through at least one server, wherein step (a) includes accessing at least one HTML document through at least one server.

29. The at least one article according to claim 27 wherein step (a) includes accessing at least one document including instructions which are operative when processed through operation of the browser to provide the output through the output device and cause operation of the currency dispenser to dispense currency.

30. The at least one article according to claim 27 wherein step (a) includes accessing at least one document including instructions which are operative when processed through operation of the browser to provide the output through the output device.

31. The at least one article according to claim 27 wherein step (a) includes accessing at least one document including instructions which are operative when processed through operation of the browser to cause operation of the currency dispenser to dispense currency.

32. The at least one article according to claim 27 wherein step (a) includes accessing a first document and a dispense document through at least one server, wherein the dispense document includes a dispense instruction, wherein the computer executable instructions are further operative to cause the automated transaction machine to carry out the steps of:

(d) processing the dispense document including the dispense instruction through operation of the browser; and

(e) responsive to the dispense instruction, operating the currency dispenser;

wherein step (a) includes accessing the first document responsive to the dispense instruction.

33. The at least one article according to claim 27 wherein step (a) includes accessing a first document and a second document through at least one server, wherein the first document includes a second document access instruction, wherein the computer executable instructions are further operative to cause the automated transaction machine to carry out the step of:

(d) processing the first document including the second document access instruction;

wherein step (a) includes accessing the second document responsive to the second document access instruction.
