Abstract

A system and method comprising, receiving a first communication over a first communication pathway; establishing a first process coupled to a host process as a result of the receiving; communicating between the first process and the second process over a second communication pathway; updating a user interface for the host process based on the communication with the second process; and wherein the second communication pathway is asynchronous.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving a first communication over a first communication pathway;

establishing a first process coupled to a host process as a result of the receiving;

communicating between the first process and the second process over a second communication pathway;

updating a user interface for the host process based on the communication with the second process; and

wherein the second communication pathway is asynchronous.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

sending a message from the first process to the second process over the second communication pathway.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein:

the first process and the second process can share second information through a shared state.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein:

the second process is a business process.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein:

the host process is a web browser.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein:

the communication over the first communication pathway utilizes the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP).

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

communicating between the first process and a third process over a third communication pathway;

updating the user interface based on the communication with the third process; and

wherein the communicating with the third process occurs independent of the communicating with the second process.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein:

the user interface is capable of displaying Hypertext Markup Language (HTML).

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

navigating from a first web page to a second web page;

suspended the first process;

navigating to the first web page; and

restoring the first process.

18. The system of claim 2 wherein:

user interface navigation from a first web page to a second web page will cause the first process to be suspended; and

navigation back to the first web page will cause the first process to be restored.

26. The machine readable medium of claim 3 wherein:

the user interface is capable of displaying Hypertext Markup Language (HTML).

27. The machine readable medium of claim 3, further comprising instructions stored thereon to cause the system to:

navigate from a first web page to a second web page;

suspend the first process;

navigate to the first web page; and

restore the first process.

10. A system comprising:

a first communication pathway;

a second communication pathway;

a host process including a user interface and coupled to the first communication pathway;

a first process coupled to the host process and the second communication pathway;

a second process coupled to the second communication pathway;

receiving a first communication over a first communication pathway;

wherein the first process is established as a result of receiving a first communication over the first communication pathway;

wherein the first process can communicate with the second process over the second communication pathway;

wherein the user interface can be updated based on communication with the second process; and

wherein the second communication pathway is asynchronous.

11. The system of claim 10 wherein:

a message can be sent from the first process to the second process over the second communication pathway.

12. The system of claim 10 wherein:

the first process and the second process can share second information through a shared state.

13. The system of claim 10 wherein:

the second process is a business process.

14. The system of claim 10 wherein:

the host process is a web browser.

15. The system of claim 10 wherein:

the communication over the first communication pathway utilizes the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP).

16. The system of claim 10, further comprising:

a third process coupled to a third communication pathway;

wherein the user interface can be updated based on the communication with the third process; and

wherein the communicating with the third process occurs independent of the communicating with the second process.

17. The system of claim 10 wherein:

the user interface is capable of displaying Hypertext Markup Language (HTML).

19. A machine readable medium having instructions stored thereon to cause a system to:

establish a second communication pathway connected to a first process and a receive a first communication over a first communication pathway;

establish a first process coupled to a host process as a result of the receiving;

communicate between the first process and the second process over a second communication pathway;

update a user interface for the host process based on the communication with the second process; and

wherein the second communication pathway is asynchronous.

20. The machine readable medium of claim 19, further comprising instructions stored thereon to cause the system to:

send a message from the first process to the second process over the second communication pathway.

21. The machine readable medium of claim 19 wherein:

the first process and the second process can share second information through a shared state.

22. The machine readable medium of claim 19 wherein:

the second process is a business process.

23. The machine readable medium of claim 19 wherein:

the host process is a web browser.

24. The machine readable medium of claim 19 wherein:

the communication over the first communication pathway utilizes the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP).

25. The machine readable medium of claim 19, further comprising instructions stored thereon to cause the system to:

communicate between the first process and a third process over a third communication pathway;

update the user interface based on the communication with the third process; and

wherein the communicating with the third process occurs independent of the communicating with the second process.

28. A computer signal embodied in a transmission medium, comprising:

a code segment including instructions for receiving a first communication over a first communication pathway;

a code segment including instructions for establishing a first process coupled to a host process as a result of the receiving;

a code segment including instructions for communicating between the first process and the second process over a second communication pathway;

a code segment including instructions for updating a user interface for the host process based on the communication with the second process; and

wherein the second communication pathway is asynchronous.
