Abstract

A method of displaying an image with a display device is provided. The method comprises receiving first image data for the image where the first image data is associated with a first color space, converting the first image data to second image data associated with a second color space, generating first and second sub-frames using the second image data, and alternating between displaying the first sub-frame in a first position and displaying the second sub-frame in a second position spatially offset from the first position.

Claims

1. A method of displaying an image with a display device, the method comprising:

receiving first image data for the image, the first image data associated with a first color space;

converting the first image data to second image data associated with a second color space;

generating first and second sub-frames using the second image data; and

alternating between displaying the first sub-frame in a first position and displaying the second sub-frame in a second position spatially offset from the first position.

2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

converting the first and the second sub-frames from the second color space to the first color space using the second image data.

3. The method of claim 2 further comprising:

generating third and fourth sub-frames using the second image data;

converting the third and the fourth sub-frames from the second color space to the first color space using the second image data; and

alternating between displaying the first sub-frame in the first position and displaying the second sub-frame in the second position spatially offset from the first position, displaying the third sub-frame in a third position spatially offset from the first position and the second position, and displaying the fourth sub-frame in a fourth position spatially offset from the first position, the second position, and the third position.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the first color space comprises an RGB color space, and wherein the second color space comprises a YUV color space.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the second image data comprises a plurality of components, wherein the method further comprises:

generating the first and the second sub-frames using less than all of the plurality of components in the second image data.

6. The method of claim 5 further comprising:

converting the first and second sub-frames from the second color space to the first color space using at least one of the plurality of components in the second image data.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the second image data comprises a luminance component and at least one chrominance component, wherein the method further comprises:

generating the first and the second sub-frames using the luminance component without using the at least one chrominance component in the second image data.

8. The method of claim 7 further comprising:

converting the first and second sub-frames from the second color space to the first color space using the at least one chrominance component.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

generating the first and the second sub-frames using a simulation kernel.

10. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

generating the first and the second sub-frames using an error kernel.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein the image comprises a plurality of image pixels, wherein the first and the second sub-frames comprise a plurality of sub-frame pixels that are centered with respect to the plurality of image pixels.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein the first image data comprises a plurality of pixels at a first resolution, and wherein the first and the second sub-frames comprise a second plurality of pixels at a second resolution that is less than the first resolution.

13. A system for displaying an image, the system comprising:

a buffer adapted to receive first image data for the image, the first image data associated with a first color space;

an image processing unit configured to convert the first image data to second image data associated with a second color space and generate first and second sub-frames using the second image data; and

a display device adapted to alternately display the first sub-frame in a first position and the second sub-frame in a second position spatially offset from the first position.

14. The system of claim 13 wherein the image processing unit is configured convert to the first and second sub-frames from the second color space to the first color space using the second image data.

15. The system of claim 13 wherein the second image data comprises a first portion and a second portion, wherein the image processing unit is configured to generate the first and the second sub-frames using the first portion of the second image data, and wherein the image processing unit is configured to convert the first and second sub-frames from the second color space to the first color space using the second portion of the second image data.

16. The system of claim 15 wherein the first portion of the second image data comprises luminance data, and wherein the second portion of the second image data comprises chrominance data.

17. The system of claim 13 wherein the first color space comprises an RGB color space, and wherein the second color space comprises a YUV color space.

18. The system of claim 13 wherein the image processing unit is configured to generate the first and the second sub-frames using a simulation kernel.

19. The system of claim 13 wherein the image processing unit is configured to generate the first and the second sub-frames using an error kernel.

20. A system for displaying an image, the system comprising:

means for receiving image data corresponding to the image, the image data comprising a first portion associated with a first component of a first color space and a second portion associated with a second component of the first color space;

means for convolving the first portion of the image data using an interpolating filter to generate sub-frame data;

means for generating first and second sub-frames using the sub-frame data and the second portion of the image data; and

means for alternating between displaying the first sub-frame in a first position and displaying the second sub-frame in a second position spatially offset from the first position.

21. The system of claim 20 wherein the first color space comprises a YUV color space, wherein the first component of the first color space comprises a luminance component, and wherein the second component of the first color space comprises a chrominance component.

The system of claim 20 wherein the image data comprises a third portion associated with a third component of the first color space, wherein the first color space comprises an RGB color space, wherein the first component of the first color space comprises a green component, wherein the second component of the first color space comprises a red component, and wherein the third component of the first color space comprises a blue component.

23. The system of claim 20 further comprising:

means for converting the first and the second sub-frames from the first color space to a second color space.

24. The system of claim 23 wherein the first color space comprises an RGB color space, and wherein the second color space comprises a YUV color space.

25. The system of claim 20 wherein the means for convolving the first portion of the image data further comprises means for convolving the first portion of the image data using an error filter to generate the sub-frame data.

26. A computer-readable medium having computer-executable instructions for performing a method of generating a sub-frame image which comprises a plurality of sub-frames for display at spatially offset positions to generate the appearance of an image, comprising:

receiving first image data corresponding to the image, the first image data associated with a first color space;

converting the first image data to second image data associated with a second color space, the second image data comprising a first portion associated with a first component of the second color space and a second portion associated with a second component of the second color space; and

convolving the first portion of the second image data using an interpolating filter to generate the plurality of sub-frames.

27. The computer-readable medium of claim 26 having computer-executable instructions for:

converting the sub-frame data and the second portion of the second image data to the first color space.

The computer-readable medium of claim 26 wherein the first color space comprises an RGB color space, wherein the second color space comprises a YUV color space, wherein the first component of the second color space comprises a luminance component, and wherein the second component of the second color space comprises a chrominance component.

29. The computer-readable medium of claim 26 having computer-executable instructions for:

convolving the first portion of the second image data using an error filter to generate the plurality of sub-frames.
