Abstract

Disclosed herein, among other things, is a system comprising a content repository, a communication portal developer, a content manager, and an analytic engine. The content repository is adapted to store electronic content in a computer-readable storage medium. The communication portal developer includes at least one wizard to create a plurality of customizable portals without coding software. Each customizable portal is accessible to one or more selected visitors through a web browser. The content manager is adapted to publish selectable electronic content to selectable portals. The content manager includes at least one wizard to populate and manage the electronic content within the content repository. The analytic engine analyzes electronic content use and visitor behavior while logged into their customizable portal. In various embodiments, the analytics are provided in real time or near real time. Other embodiments are disclosed herein.

Claims

1. A system, comprising:

a content repository adapted to store electronic content in a computer-readable storage medium;

a communication portal developer, including at least one wizard to create a plurality of customizable portals without coding software, each customizable portal being accessible to one or more selected visitors through a web browser;

a content manager adapted to publish selectable electronic content to selectable portals, the content manager including at least one wizard to populate and manage the electronic content within the content repository; and

an analytic engine to analyze electronic content use and visitor behavior while logged into their customizable portal.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the analytic engine is adapted to provide real-time or near real-time analytics regarding the electronic content use and the visitor behavior.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the content repository, the communication portal developer, the content manager, and the analytic engine includes a user interface with a skin customized to provide consistent branding for a user of the system.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the skin includes a font type, a font size graphics, and color extracted from an existing website of the organization.

5. The system of claim 4, wherein at least one of the font type, a font size, the graphics and the color are automatically extracted from the existing user of the user.

6. The system of claim 1, further comprising a dashboard interface, the dashboard interface being adapted to provide portal information, analysis of electronic content use and visitor behavior, and email communications in a single display.

The system of claim 1, wherein the at least one wizard of the communication portal developer includes a number of programmable parameters to customize portals, at least one programmable parameter being associated with a number of predetermined choices to enable to portal creator to select at least one of the predetermined choices for the at least one programmable parameter.

8. The system of claim 7, wherein the at least one wizard of the communication portal developer further comprises an interface to copy and paste graphics to customize portal branding.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the at least one wizard of the content manager includes at least one programmable parameter to identify an owner of electronic content to be stored in the content repository and at least one programmable parameter to categorize the electronic content to be stored in the content repository, each of the programmable parameters being associated with a number of predetermined choices to enable a selected owner from the predetermined choices and a selected category from the predetermined choices to be associated with the electronic content.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein each item of electronic content is stored once in the content repository and is capable of being associated with at least one portal.

11. The system of claim 1, further comprising a search engine adapted to search for electronic content within the content repository by a keyword and adapted to search for electronic content within the content repository by at least one category, the search engine including an interface adapted to present a list of selectable options for each category.

12. The system of claim 1, wherein the analytic engine includes an interface adapted to present a list of selectable reports.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the reports include application reports, including a report regarding application page activity, and a report regarding application user activity.

14. The system of claim 12, wherein the reports include item reports, including a report regarding content types, a report regarding item usage, a report regarding emailed items, a report regarding items published to portals, and a report regarding viewed items.

15. The system of claim 12, wherein the reports include portal reports, including reports regarding portal activity including what electronic content was used and what activities were being performed, reports regarding specific industries, and reports regarding specific products.

16. The system of claim 1, wherein the content repository includes a log to post messages, the portals including an interface adapted to display a posted message and present a selectable item to request an alert when a reply message is posted.

17. The system of claim 1, wherein the system is adapted to send an alert to users of a customizable portal in response to portal activity, the portal activity including at least one of electronic content posted to the portal, user activity, and a blog posting.

18. A system, comprising:

means for populating and managing electronic content in a content repository using programming wizards;

means for creating customizable communication portals without coding software using programming wizards, each communication portal being customized to provide a portal for at least one specific user;

means for publishing selectable electronic content within the content repository to selectable portals, each specific user associated with the portal to which the electronic content was published being able to access the published electronic content within the content repository through the portal; and

means for analyzing electronic content use and portal use.

19. The system of claim 18, further comprising means for automatically ranking the electronic content within the content repository.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the means for automatically ranking the electronic content includes means for automatically tracking feedback for the electronic content.

21. The system of claim 19, wherein the means for automatically ranking the electronic content includes means for automatically tracking a number of times the electronic content is downloaded.

22. The system of claim 19, wherein the means for automatically ranking the electronic content includes means for automatically tracking a number of times the electronic content is viewed.

23. The system of claim 18, wherein the means for populating and managing electronic content includes means for packaging information in electronic binders, including a collection of related electronic content stored in the content repository, to correspond to an organization'"'"'s information structure.

24. The system of claim 18, wherein the means for populating and managing electronic content includes a search engine accessible by the at least one specific user.

25. The system of claim 24, wherein the search engine includes means for searching using meta tags and keywords.

26. The system of claim 24, wherein the search engine is adapted to use the meta tags to provide a guided search in a context of intended content use.

27. The system of claim 18, wherein the means for populating and managing electronic content includes means for storing files and Uniform Resource Locator (URL) addresses based on specific categorization data.

28. The system of claim 18, wherein the means for populating and managing electronic content includes means for an administrator to provide categorization data for the electronic content in the content repository.

29. The system of claim 18, wherein the means for populating and managing electronic content includes means for authorized users to publish electronic content into a content index, including means for selecting categorization data from a list of categorization data.

30. The system of claim 18, wherein the means for populating and managing electronic content includes means for determining content use and means for alerting an owner of the electronic content when the content use does not reach a threshold.

31. The system of claim 18, wherein the means for populating and managing electronic content includes means for flagging electronic content with an expiration date, and means for automatically alerting an owner of the electronic content when the expiration date is approaching.

32. The system of claim 31, wherein the means for automatically alerting an owner of the electronic content when the expiration date is approaching includes means for emailing the owner of the electronic content.

33. The system of claim 18, wherein the means for populating and managing electronic content includes means for delegating content ownership at a department level and a content owner level.

34. The system of claim 18, wherein the means for populating and managing electronic content includes a publisher console adapted to be used in processing content pending approval.

35. They system of claim 34, wherein the publisher console is adapted to provide triggers in the content repository to manage electronic content among different statuses for a content lifecycle, including a pending approval status, an approved status, a pending archive status, an archived status, and deletion, the publisher console requiring active intervention by an owner of the electronic content in response to a trigger to maintain the electronic content in the approved status.

36. The system of claim 18, wherein the means for creating customizable portals includes means for integrating with an external system to populate contact information for the at least one specific user for the portal.

37. The system of claim 36, wherein the means for integrating with an external system includes means for integrating with at least one of an email system and a customer relationship management (CRM) system.

38. The system of claim 18, wherein the means for creating customizable portals includes means for branding the portals for the specific user, including means for copying and pasting graphics associated with brands to the portals.

39. The system of claim 18, wherein the means for creating customizable portals includes means for selecting a portal type from a list of portal types.

40. The system of claim 39, wherein the list of portal types includes Customer, Marketing and Sales, Partner, Product Launch, Project, Selling, Marketing Event and Strategic Account.

41. The system of claim 39, wherein the list of portal types includes industry-specific portal types.

42. The system of claim 39, wherein the list of portal types is customizable.

43. The system of claim 18, wherein the means for creating customizable portals includes means for selecting options for customizing the portals from a predetermined list of options.

44. The system of claim 18, wherein the means for creating customizable portals includes a portal communication center interface adapted for use in managing electronic content and contacts for the portal.

45. The system of claim 18, wherein the means for analyzing content use and portal use includes means for providing continuous, real-time data regarding the content use and the portal use.

46. The system of claim 18, wherein the means for populating and managing electronic content in a content repository using wizards, the means for creating customizable portals using programming wizards, the means for publishing selectable electronic content to selectable portals, each specific user being able to access the electronic content published to their corresponding customized portal, and the means for analyzing electronic content use and portal use are provided within a hosted server environment.

47. The system of claim 18, wherein the portal for the at least one specific user is password protected.

48. The system of claim 18, further comprising an online journal, including postings from a plurality of users of the portal.

49. The system of claim 18, further comprising means for customizing an internal application of the hosted server, and means for customizing a portal appearance as viewed through a user'"'"'s browser.

50. A method, comprising:

populating and managing electronic content in a content repository using programming wizards;

creating customizable communication portals without coding software using programming wizards, each communication portal being customized to provide a portal for at least one specific user;

publishing selectable electronic content within the content repository to selectable portals, each specific user associated with the portal to which the electronic content was published being able to access the published electronic content within the content repository through the portal; and

analyzing content use and portal use.

51. The method of claim 50, further comprising automatically ranking the electronic content within the content repository.

52. The method of claim 50, wherein populating and managing electronic content includes packaging information in electronic binders to correspond to an organization'"'"'s information structure.

53. The method of claim 50, further comprising searching for electronic content in the content repository using meta tags and keywords.

54. The method of claim 53, further comprising providing a guided search in a context of intended content use using the meta tags.

55. The method of claim 50, wherein populating and managing electronic content includes flagging electronic content with an expiration date, and automatically alerting an owner of the electronic content when the expiration date is approaching.

56. The method of claim 50, wherein creating customizable portals includes branding the portals for the specific user, including copying and pasting graphics associated with brands to the portals.

57. The method of claim 50, wherein analyzing electronic content use and portal use includes providing continuous, real-time data regarding the content use and the portal use.

58. The method of claim 50, further comprising posting online journal entries from a plurality of users on the portal.

61. The method of claim 51, wherein adding company details includes importing company information from an external contact management database.

71. The method of claim 61, wherein the list of potential users includes contact information from an external contact management data base.

59. A method for creating a portal through a user interface with a communication portal developer, comprising:

selecting an owner of the portal from a list of potential owners provided by the interface;

selecting an audience for the portal from a list of potential audiences provided by the interface;

adding electronic content from a content repository to the portal; and

adding users to the portal.

60. The method of claim 59, further comprising adding company details for the portal.

62. The method of claim 59, further comprising customizing a portal home page, including copying and pasting graphics to the portal home page.

63. The method of claim 59, further comprising adding an electronic binder to the portal, the binder including a collection of related electronic content stored in the content repository.

64. The method of claim 59, wherein adding electronic content from the content repository to the portal includes adding electronic content from a content index for the portal type.

65. The method of claim 59, further comprising sending a password for the user to the user using email.

66. The method of claim 59, further comprising informing the owner of the portal when the user logs onto the portal.

67. The method of claim 59, further comprising assigning an account team to the portal.

68. The method of claim 59, wherein adding electronic content from the content repository to the portal includes selecting electronic content from a list of available electronic content, the list of available electronic content being dependent on a selected audience.

69. The method of claim 59, wherein selecting an audience for the portal from a list of potential audiences provided by the interface includes:

selecting an audience type from a list of audience types provided by the interface; and

selecting an audience industry from a list of audience industries provided by the interface.

70. The method of claim 59, wherein adding users to the portal includes selecting users from a list of potential users provided by the interface.

72. A computer system, comprising:

a content repository adapted to store electronic content in a computer-readable medium; and

a communication portal developer to develop customized portals, including;

a portal owner interface to provide a list of potential owners and to enable selection of a portal owner from the list of potential owners;

an audience interface to provide a list of potential audiences and to enable selection of an audience from the list of potential audiences;

a portal content interface to provide a list of potential electronic content stored in the content repository and accessible through the portal, and to enable selection of portal content from the list of potential electronic contents; and

a portal user interface to enter one or more portal users.

73. The system of claim 72, wherein the audience interface includes:

an audience type interface to provide a list of potential audience types and to enable selection of an audience type from the list of potential audience types; and

an audience industry interface to provide a list of potential audience industries and to enable selection of an audience industry from the list of potential audience industries.

74. The system of claim 72, wherein the list of potential electronic content accessible through the portal is based on a selected audience.

75. The system of claim 72, wherein the portal content interface includes at least one electronic binder used to organize a collection of related electronic content stored in the content repository.
