Abstract

A publication system, method and apparatus simplifies end-to-end planning, building and printing of publications. The present invention allows a publication'"'"'s audience and other third parties to submit content while allowing producers to collaboratively manipulate, proof and print the publication. The present invention provides in part a planning and budgeting tool that assists the producers in the initial stages of publication. The present invention can further provide a tool for custom publication development and loyalty marketing. In one embodiment, the invention can accept advertisement submissions electronically, and can afford advertisers the opportunity to receive exposure to potential consumers electronically during production. Claims

1. A system for content processing and publication, comprising:

a planning component enabling at least one member of a first user type from a first client device to establish at least one publication parameter for a content publication and at least one criteria for receiving content contributions from at least one member of a second user type;

a content authoring component allowing said at least one second user type member to author and edit content as constrained by said at least one publication parameter so as to become screened content;

a development component enabling said at least one second user type member to upload said screened content to a server from a second client device, said server storing said content, said development component further enabling said at least one first user type member to retrieve said uploaded content for use in said publication as constrained by said at least one parameter;

a proofing component enabling said at least one first user type member to render at least a portion of said publication for viewing electronically via a client device; and

a publication component for producing said publication.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein said authoring component allows said at least one second user type member to import and proof said screened content.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein said screened content is advertising content.

4. A method for content processing and publication, comprising the steps of:

providing a planning component enabling at least one member of a first user type from a first client device to establish at least one publication parameter for a content publication and at least one criteria for receiving content contributions from at least one member of a second user type;

providing a content authoring component allowing said at least one second user type member to author and edit content as constrained by said at least one publication parameter so as to become screened content;

providing a development component enabling said at least one second user type member to upload said screened content to a server from a second client device, said server storing said content, said development component further enabling said at least one first user type member to retrieve said uploaded content for use in said publication as constrained by said at least one parameter;

providing a proofing component enabling said at least one first user type member to render at least a portion of said publication for viewing electronically via a client device; and

providing a publication component for producing said publication.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein said authoring component allows said at least one second user type member to import and proof said screened content.

6. The method of claim 4 wherein said screened content is advertising content.

7. A computer-assisted order processing tool for use with a content publication tool, comprising:

an order interface component providing a first interface for receiving a content publication order for a content publication produced using said publication tool, and a second interface for receiving a content submission order in connection with said content publication;

a content publication order processing component for processing payment information received via said first interface in connection with a publication order;

a content submission order processing component for processing payment information received via said second interface in connection with a content submission order;

a content submission criteria component for determining and communicating at least one criteria for content associated with said content submission order; and

a content submission evaluation component for receiving submitted content associated with said content submission order for evaluating said submitted content'"'"'s conformance to said at least one criteria.

8. The tool of claim 7 wherein said content submission order is an advertising content submission order.

9. The tool of claim 7 wherein said content publication has at least one producer-established publication parameter and at least one publication production constraint, and wherein said submitted content is produced without regard to said at least one parameter and said at least one constraint.

10. The tool of claim 7 wherein said content submission criteria component determines said at least one criteria based on an inventory of available advertising space.

11. The tool of claim 7 wherein said content submission criteria component determines said at least one criteria based on an inventory of available advertising content type.

12. The tool of claim 7 further including a content authoring tool for use in creating submission criteria-compliant content.

13. The tool of claim 7 wherein said content submission order is a submission of non-advertising content.

14. A computer-assisted method for processing an order associated with a content publication, comprising the steps of:

providing an order interface component providing a first interface for receiving a content publication order and a second interface for receiving a content submission order;

providing a content publication order processing component for processing payment information received via said first interface in connection with a publication order;

providing a content submission order processing component for processing payment information received via said second interface in connection with a content submission order;

providing a content submission criteria component for determining and communicating at least one criteria for content associated with said content submission order; and

providing a content submission evaluation component for receiving submitted content associated with said content submission order for evaluating said submitted content'"'"'s conformance to said at least one criteria.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein said content submission order is an advertising content submission order.

16. The method of claim 14 wherein said content publication has at least one producer-established publication parameter and at least one publication production constraint, and wherein said submitted content is produced without regard to said at least one parameter and said at least one constraint.

17. The method of claim 14 wherein said content submission criteria component determines said at least one criteria based on an inventory of available advertising space.

18. The method of claim 14 wherein said content submission criteria component determines said at least one criteria based on an inventory of available advertising content type.

19. The method of claim 14 including the step of providing a content authoring tool for use in creating submission criteria-compliant content.

20. The method of claim 14 wherein said content submission order is a submission of non-advertising content.
