Abstract

Methods and systems for processing text input within a MMI application framework are provided and may comprise creating at least one text editor by an active application and generating at least one text edit view by the text editor. Text input, for example, predictive input, multi-tap input and/or numeric input, which may be associated with the text edit view, may be received by the text editor. At least one text editor feature may be associated with at least one text editor and the text editor feature may comprise a maximum string length characteristic and/or a cursor characteristic. The text editor feature may be customized for each text editor view and the text input may be buffered by a buffer within the MMI application framework.

Claims

1. A method for processing text input within a MMI application framework, the method comprising:

creating at least one text editor by an active application;

generating at least one text edit view by said at least one text editor; and

receiving text input by said at least one text editor, said text input associated with said at least one text edit view.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein said text input comprises a predictive input, a multi-tap input or a numeric input.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising associating at least one text editor feature with said at least one text editor.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein said at least one text editor feature comprises maximum string length characteristic or a cursor characteristic.

5. The method of claim 3, further comprising customizing said at least one text editor feature for each of said at least one text editor view.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising buffering said text input by a buffer within the MMI application framework.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising encoding said text input by said buffer utilizing at least one encoding algorithm.

8. The method of claim 6, further comprising customizing at least one buffer feature of said buffer.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein said at least one buffer feature comprises size or number of warning characters.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising masking said received text input by said at least one text editor.

11. A machine-readable storage having stored thereon, a computer program having at least one code section for processing text input within a MMI application framework, the at least one code section being executable by a machine for causing the machine to perform steps comprising:

creating at least one text editor by an active application;

generating at least one text edit view by said at least one text editor; and

receiving text input by said at least one text editor, said text input associated with said at least one text edit view.

12. The machine-readable storage of claim 11, wherein said text input comprises a predictive input, a multi-tap input or a numeric input.

13. The machine-readable storage of claim 11, further comprising code for associating at least one text editor feature with said at least one text editor.

14. The machine-readable storage of claim 13, wherein said at least one text editor feature comprises maximum string length characteristic or a cursor characteristic.

15. The machine-readable storage of claim 13, further comprising code for customizing said at least one text editor feature for each of said at least one text editor view.

16. The machine-readable storage of claim 11, further comprising code for buffering said text input by a buffer within the MMI application framework.

17. The machine-readable storage of claim 16, further comprising code for encoding said text input by said buffer utilizing at least one encoding algorithm.

18. The machine-readable storage of claim 16, further comprising code for customizing at least one buffer feature of said buffer.

19. The machine-readable storage of claim 18, wherein said at least one buffer feature comprises size or number of warning characters.

20. The machine-readable storage of claim 11, further comprising code for masking said received text input by said at least one text editor.

21. A system for processing text input within a MMI application framework, the system comprising:

an active application that creates at least one text editor;

said at least one text editor generates at least one text edit view; and

said at least one text editor receives text input, said text input associated with said at least one text edit view.

22. The system of claim 21, wherein said text input comprises a predictive input, a multi-tap input or a numeric input.

23. The system of claim 21, wherein said at least one text editor associates at least one text editor feature.

24. The system of claim 23, wherein said at least one text editor feature comprises maximum string length characteristic or a cursor characteristic.

25. The system of claim 23, wherein said at least one text editor customizes said at least one text editor feature for each of said at least one text editor view.

26. The system of claim 21, further comprising a buffer within the MMI application framework that buffers said text input.

27. The system claim 26, wherein said buffer encodes said text input utilizing at least one encoding algorithm.

28. The system of claim 26, wherein said buffer customizes at least one buffer feature.

29. The system of claim 28, wherein said at least one buffer feature comprises size or number of warning characters.

30. The system of claim 21, wherein said at least one text editor masks said received text input.
