Abstract

A system for monitoring activity along a wire-bounded perimeter. The monitoring system includes a single-conductor wire which bounds a protected area. In communication with the wire at predetermined locations is a series of sensors which are either physically or inductively coupled to the wire. The sensors measure activity the wire bounded perimeter. The measured activity is analyzed by the transponder unit which categorizes the activity. The monitoring system can operate as a stand-alone system or be integrated with a conventional residential and light commercial security system. Further, the monitoring system may incorporate a pet containment transmitter for use with an electronic pet containment system.

Claims

1. A system for monitoring activity along an area bounded by a wire, said system comprising:

a wire defining a boundary around an area, said wire having a single conductor;

a sensor in communication with said wire, said sensor responsive to variations in conditions proximate to said sensor;

an gateway electrically connected to said wire, said gateway managing communications through said wire;

a processing device producing a request for said sensor and receiving a response from said sensor, said processing device interpreting said response and producing an alert when activity is indicated proximate to said sensor;

a gateway in electrical communication with said wire, said gateway responsive to said processing device, said gateway managing transmission and reception of said request and said response; and

an indicator responsive to said processing device, said indicator communicating said alert thereby indicating activity proximate to said sensor.
