Abstract

A Java based server is disclosed for providing streaming data. Streaming data is received in a publisher interface and processed to generate Java messages describing real time updated. One application of the Java based server is to provide streaming data for business process.

Claims

1. An apparatus for publishing streaming data, comprising:

a server including;

a process engine to process streaming data;

a Java messaging service;

a publisher interface coupled to said Java messaging service for publishers to publish streaming data; and

a subscriber interface coupled to said Java messaging service for subscribers to listen to streaming data;

wherein real time data from at least one streaming data source may be provided via Java messages.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a data warehouse for storing data stream updates.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising an Excel®

client manager having a publisher interface to publish data and a subscriber interface for subscribing to data, whereby said Excel®

client manager can subscribe to data and also publish data back to said server.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein an Excel®

workbook includes a real time client interface to receive data from said Excel®

client manager and an object linking and embedding data base for publishing data to said Excel®

client manager.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said server is adapted to provide real time data for a business process.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a persister coupled to said Java messaging service.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:

a stream manager to manage streaming data.

8. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:

a client manager to manage clients.

9. A method of generating real time data, comprising:

receiving streaming data in a publisher interface;

processing said streaming data to generate Java messages describing real time data updates; and

providing said Java messages to at least one subscriber.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

storing data stream updates in a data warehouse.

11. The method of claim 9, wherein said at least one subscriber comprises an Excel®

client manager, the method further comprising;

said Excel®

client manager providing data updates to an Excels workbook.

12. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

publishing data from said Excel®

workbook to at least one other subscriber.

13. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

managing streaming data.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein said managing comprises stream configuration and querying.
